GirijAye VidmahE = We know Her as GirijA (Daughter of the Mountains, PArvatI or

the Mountain King - ImavAn)

SivapriyAye Dimahi = We meditate as SivapriyA (One loved by Shiva)

TannO Durga pracOdayAt.h = Thus, Durga kindles our consciousness (enlightens).

I think some correction is required in the quoted gayatri. Generally the dative

case is employed in most of the gayatris - I mean 'sampradaana-vibhakti or

chaturthee vibhakti'. Thus, it should be 'girijAyai' and 'SivapriyAyai' and not

girijAye and SivapriyAye.

I have not come across the usage of girijAye or SivapriyAye. Such inflections

are not part of Sanskrit - neither Vedic nor modern.

Further, it is 'dheemahi' and the last word is 'pracOdayAt' and not

'pracOdhayat.h'.

I believe this can also be explained as the pitfalls of transliteration

based on reading vs. listening. " girijayai " and " girijaye " sound very

similar to most people in pronunciation, even though to us sanskritists they

are spelled quite differently. :)

in terms of pracodayat.h, this is again an inflection of some styles of

chanting, as classical style will often extend a consonant into a following

vowel even though there is no vowel to be found (and in this case that sound

has been rendered into visarga). so again this seems to me to be a

transliteration based on listening rather than looking at the sanskrit

directly.

a good lesson in how text can be limited and also liberating!

You'll find Mother in any house.

Do I dare say it in public?

She is Bhairavi with Shiva,

Durga with Her children,

Sita with Lakshmana.

She's mother, daughter, wife, sister -

Every woman close to you.

What more can Ramprasad say?

You work the rest out from these hints.

Namaste!!

Thanks! Could you also give the complete form, meeting the Gayatri Chandas

requirements (which can trasliterate correctly to sanskrit)?

Is it something like this?

OM

girijAyai cha vidmahe                         (note: cha required ??)

shivapriyAyai cha dhimahi                  (note: cha required ??)

tannoo durgi prachoodayaat.               (note: durga or durgi?)
