Guest guest
Hello All, Is Gayatri Sadhana a form of Shakthy sadhana? Gayatri is supposed to be a prayer to the sun god for dispelling darkness of the intellect. Yet the diety is supposed to be Gayatri devi ( which includes Gayatri, Savitri and Saraswathy)? Any thoughts on this? Thank you, Bob
Guest guest
Namaste: The Gayatri Sadhana is most definitely a Devi Sadhana. The sun's female form is Savitri. An old story has it that Savitri is the sister to the sun god. The sun is associated with holy fire (yagna), the light of wisdom, and complete enlightenment. Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom, and has long been associated with study, the arts, music, etc. When Hindus have the Navaratri celebration Saraswati is included along with Mahakali, and MahaLakshmi. In the Chandi Path Saraswati also plays a role. The three goddesses are supposed to the three gunas, and Saraswati would be the most pure of the gunas. Gayatri is depicted with five heads. Three of the heads are Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahman. The Gayatri mantra is supposed to be Veda mata or mother of the Vedas. By chanting this mantra (properly, of course) you are chanting the highest mantra. Sorry to go on so much, but I'm a devotee of Gayatri and Saraswati. Guest guest
>The sun's female form is Savitri. An old story >has it that Savitri is the sister to the sun god. Even older is the fact that the related Indo-European sun deities were goddesses: Sul, Saulé, Sol (eventually masculinized in Germanic trads), and so on. Sul was a sun goddess to whom the thermal waters at Bath, England, were sacred. Surya is linguistically related to the names of these goddesses, and may have originally been a goddess in the distant past.
