Jai Maa

Dear all the readers I want to know about the very important festival of Mata

being celebrated at KAMAKHYA TEMPLE in the month of Ashada (June). What are the

days at which the temple is closed and no pooja is done int he temple and after

how many days the temple is opened for people.

At which time this festival is celebrated in this year.

Thanks in advance.

Actually I am planning to visit the temple at this time.

Jai MAA!

The festival of AMBUBACHI begins this year on Monday, June 22 (Amavasya) and

not only the SRI SRI KAMAKHYA TEMPLE is closed for three days for Devi's

menstruation, but also all the temples in the Nilachal Hills and in the

surrounding areas are closed as it is the Earth Herself that menstruates.

There are varying views on why the temple is closed, from Brahminical taboo

(this is found in the Devi Bhagavatam, I believe) to honoring the Mother and

allowing Her to rest for these three days.

The temples open again on June 25th. This festival is wonderful and if you

can make it, you should go. The most prized (and rare) prasad is a piece of

MAA's red sari that She wears during menstruation.

You can read an article on the festival here:
