Guest guest
It would be a mistake to say that Devi worship only existed from the time of the stone temples, which the Buddhists were first to erect, or that what is reflected in written record represents the entire culture. The Adivasi traditions don't have this type of culture, and yet they have been a potent substratum of Devi veneration bubbling up into the learned culture. Archaeology shows us an older heritage, even older than the Harappan hieroglyphs. Here's a couple of examples of very old sacred feminine figurines, for http://web.me.com/kbolman/India_5,000_BCE/Mehrgarh_7,000BC.html http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mehrgarh_goddess.jpg If you scroll down on this page, there are several Indus valley seals showing several images that i believe are ancestral to Durga on her tiger. In this case, the goddess herself has tiger attributes, which we see also with Xi Wangmu the great goddess of China. http://www.suppressedhistories.net/Gallery/indus/tigers.html Max -- Max Dashu Art in Goddess Reverence http://www.maxdashu.net
