deep roots of Devi worship

It would be a mistake to say that Devi worship only existed from the

time of the stone temples, which the Buddhists were first to erect,

or that what is reflected in written record represents the entire

culture.

 

The Adivasi traditions don't have this type of culture, and yet they

have been a potent substratum of Devi veneration bubbling up into the

learned culture.

 

Archaeology shows us an older heritage, even older than the Harappan

hieroglyphs. Here's a couple of examples of very old sacred feminine

If you scroll down on this page, there are several Indus valley seals

showing several images that i believe are ancestral to Durga on her

tiger. In this case, the goddess herself has tiger attributes, which

we see also with Xi Wangmu the great goddess of China.
