This is the only day on which northern gate are open in any temple . Once upon a time when a demon named Murra created havoc all the gods prayed to the Lord Narayana entering his abode of vaikunta through the northern gate. As the purans says there are three crores of gods, this day is known as the day of the three crores gods . Hence Mukoti Ekadasi.This is known as Vaikunta Ekadasi because devotees will be absolved of all there sins when they have the glimps of the Lord having enter through the north gate . In the higher spiritual science noth indicates the sahasrara of the sadhaka the northern gate means opening the way to sahasrara . They occurs in the month of Dhanush that is the 11th day in the bright fortnight of the sustain month in the secret Vaikunta Ekadasi day .This signifies the preparation for the Uttharayana which takes place in around 20 days from hence.Uttharayana moks the sun gods journey towards the north that is from Muladhara signifies from the south ,the sadhaka starts his journey towards the north to reach the peaks of the greater mountain Kailasha to have a union with the Lord on this day people absorve a vow of fasting and engage themselves in spiritual sadhana of their liking such as bhajans, sat sang , hawan, or puja or meditation . Those inclinded towards the path of knowledge prefers reading of scriptures or the vedic texts through all Ekadasi days because it gives a direct access to the Lord if the devotee prays with a pure heart .
