A Heavenly Scent

Lisa sat down on the red earth and looked up at the stage. She had reallyintended to meditate, but there was such a lot going on in the pandal thatshe preferred to look outwards, rather than inwards. The Yuva Shakti fromBombay was busy building numerous small fires and the stage was beingdecorated by yogis. It was Lisa's first time at the Sahaj marriages. Theengagements the previous evening had been full of joy and vibrations and shewanted to experience the big day itself from the beginning right through tothe end. She could feel a cool breeze, and somehow the daylight changedbriefly. Lisa blinked and looked out at the sky.It was clear and a brilliant blue. In a single point a few clouds werevisible. Suddenly she felt a current of air near her left ear, as ifsomething were flying past, followed by the strong scent of sandalwood andhaldi. She looked round, ready to smile at the bride or bridegroomresponsible, but none of the lucky couples were anywhere to be seen. Then ithappened again; the current of air and the strong scent of sandalwood andhaldi. In the meantime the pandal was filling up quickly. Everyone wanted to enjoythe coming vibrations, and there were very few places. Some of the women hadput perfume on, but nobody smelled like the current of air. An old, Indianyogini sat next to Lisa and gave her a friendly smile. And again she feltthe current by her left ear, followed by the scent. She turned roundquickly, but she could see only three children, waiting for their mothers atthe end of the row. Astonished, she looked towards the front again. "What isit, child?" asked the old Indian lady. "Oh, I keep feeling this draught andthen a really strong scent, but there is no-one to be seen." The Indianwoman laughed. "Those are the deities." She pointed up at the sky, where theclouds were to be seen. "They have left their 'vahan as' (vehicles) parked upthere and are coming down to watch the marriages." Lisa was speechless. Thecurrent of air she had felt was a deity going by? And that scent? Is thatwhat a deity smells like? "In the photos we can sometimes see them as light. But today you have been able to feel and smell them. That is something veryspecial." Lisa shut her eyes, she was completely filled with joy at thethought that she had been allowed to experience such a thing. A cry ofastonishment interrupted her joyful meditation. The Indian lady next to herwas looking at her wide-eyed. "I have just felt it too." Lisa smiled at herand after a few moments' silence asked, "Sandalwood?" The Indian lady noddedslowly. "Yes, and haldi." Lisa nodded too."Exactly.""Kya bhat hai."from the TEV-newsletter:Jai Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi Namoh Namaha !!!
