"The sacred architecture of Islam par excellence is the mosque which is but a recreation of the harmony, order and peace inherent in nature. While praying in a traditional mosque, the Muslim in a sense returns to the bosom of nature, not externally but through the inner nexus which relates the mosque to the principles and rhythms of nature. The word mosque derives from the Arabic masjid, which literally means the place of prostration (sujud). This is the position in Islamic ritual prayers (namaz), in which the forehead of the worshipper touches the ground in the supreme act of submission and surrender before God. Before the prostration however, at the beginning of his prayer, he stands directly as the primordial man, himself his own priest, facing god without an intermediary. This is a unique and significant achievement in the development of mystic thought, where man is viewed not as a fallen being but as god's vicegerent on

earth, aware of his theomorphic substance and competent and 'perfect' enough to correspond directly with God.""Some scholars and mystics have claimed that there is a common base to all mystical experience: ‘all mystics, said Saint-Martin, speak the same language and come from the same country. Throughout recorded history men and women known as mystics have experienced a certainty about the nature of reality, about the place of human beings and other sentient creatures in that reality, and a perspective on everyday mundane life, that seems to bear a remarkable similarity from culture to culture, from century to another. It is as if they experience that the soul, the Higher Self, in communion with the Absolute, God, Divinity, can be a greater, higher, more inward reality than the personality living in the living world. The greater reality suffuses the lesser and alters it beyond recognition. ‘The infinite shines through the finite and makes it more and not less real.’206

This is not a doctrine, a dogma learned through a church or established religion, but a personal experience, an inner knowing, which lies at the root of all religious doctrines and is prior to them.""Mysticism, a quest for a hidden truth or wisdom ("the treasure hidden in the centres of our souls"), in the 20th century is undergoing a renewal of interest and understanding and even a mood of expectancy similar to that which had marked its role in previous eras. Such a mood stems in part from the feeling of alienation that many persons experience in the modern world. Put down as a religion of the elite, mysticism (or the mystical faculty of perceiving transcendental reality) is said by many to belong to all men, though few use it. The British author Aldous Huxley has stated that "a totally unmystical world would be a world totally blind and insane," and the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore has noted that "Man has a feeling that he is truly represented in something which

exceeds himself.According to the Svetasvatara Upanishads 1.11:

When a man knows God, he is free: his sorrows have an end, and birth and death are no more. When in inner union he is beyond the world of the body,Then the third world, the world of the Spirit, is found, where the power of the All is, and man has all;For he is one with the One.

"First of all you should absolutely fix yourself on the Truth and the Truth is that you are the instrument of God, that you have got Realization, that you have got a special awareness which people do not have. Stand on that and proclaim it. You are standing on the Truth and that is such a Power, such a strength . . . So prepare yourself to move to any place because you have to take this compassion everywhere, and you have to prosper that Kingdom of God. You have to serve Him and this service is only possible if you know that you are here for a very great universal task not only for U.K., for India or for America but you are here for a global task which is the epitome of our evolution. This is the highest thing we have to do for our creation and for our Creator — and you are chosen for that."
