theorist, and accomplished instrumentalist . . . Agreeing with al-

Kindi, al-Farabi held that a prophet is gifted with a sharp intellect

capable of receiving philosophical verities naturally and without any

mental exertion.

 

He then communicates these truths to the masses, who are incapable of

comprehending them on the philosophical level. Religion, for al-

Farabi, is the imitation of philosophy. It is philosophy in

imaginative and symbolic form. Since, moreover, the essential truth

of religion and philosophy is one, all religions are one in essence.

Hence, religious differences are due to the diversity of languages

and cultures, not of truth itself. "

Sahib, Dattatreya, Raja Janaka or Shirdi Sai Nath — there is no

difference in their principle if you can just get your Spirit. "
