Guest guest
If you believe he (Chinmoy) is, in fact, God walking on earth, then everything he does, regardless of how offensive or morally represensible, is OK, because God is doing it, and, of course, God is beyond goodness or morality. I saw the lies, the cruelty, the dumb mistakes, the pettiness, but because it all came from God, it was mysteriously acceptable. In l968 and 69 I used to drive ckg and Alo often. They would have all-out scream-at-each-other fights (no physical blows, however). The causes were always so petty, usually some inadvertant slight by a disciple, that I could not believe anyone, especially a spiritual person, would argue about such an issue. Therefore I always believed that the heated arguments were staged by them for me, to show me that they were also human (I readily believed their divinity). I thought it unnecessary for them so often to go through so much trouble and emotional turmoil for me, but who was I to judge? I took the other obvious imperfections in ckg in the same vein, as God teaching me in mysterious ways. In January 1987, I was present, with about 25 others, for the 7,000 pound right arm " lift " . I knew for months that ckg was not really lifting what he claimed, I had even pointed out to him that a photo taken from below the curved cradle that supported the bar with the weights, made the bottom of the cradle, on which the weight rested, appear to be part ways up the curve, as if the weight had been lifted there. After that, all photos were taken from that lower angle. I simply believed that " God " was lying about the weight lifting " accomplishments " for His own inexplicable reason. During the 7000 lb lift attempt, we were told to look at ckg's throne in front of his living room, and not at the attempt itself. Although I was usually obedient, this time I was not. I sat at the side, near the stairs, and watched the weights and ckg as his back was to me attempting the lifts. Ckg tried five times, the weight did not move up, and he went upstairs to change clothes. When he returned, I expected him to say that this was another unsuccessful attempt. Instead, he announced he had been successful. The room was silent, as most disciples had not looked at the attempt and did not see it. More recently I have discovered that I was not the only disciple who secretly looked at the attempts and saw no lift. Ckg asked for the automatic video of the lifts to be played. It showed no movement of the weights. On the third attempt he began saying: " Look, can you not see the lift? " Still silence. He ordered the video be shown over and over. He started singling out disciples, asking if they could not see the lift on video. Finally one woman said she saw it. He continued working the room. More joined in. Finally everyone but me was exclaiming ever more loudly they saw the lift. When he asked me point blank if I saw it, I said no. He then said we should never show that video again, because even his disciple (me) could not see the lift. The video was never shown again. I left the ckg house dazed, not because he lied about the lift, but because I saw how he manipulated the disciples, and more-over, that it was done in a deliberate and chillingly malevolent way. I felt I had seen evil, and I was stunned. rudratamm
