Guest guest
flamingriver53 Mon Sep 13, 2004 10:11 pm People in uniform This morning I was walking to work and dodged at least a hundred Hasidic young boys filing along all in black pants, jackets, white shirts and the broad black hat. They moved by with their heads turned askance. I had to navigate being trampled as they were so turned inward they barely recognized that they were sharing the sidewalk. It was reminsicent of the lonliness I felt in the Sri chinmoy Centre, where the young men wore white uniforms and the women wore saris and at certain times of year traveled in packs. And the heads turned away, unwilling to make eye contact with someone who wasn't in their crowd or in their caste. I thought about nuns and monks and catholic school uniforms, Asian monks with the orange or brown or white cloth. All separating themselves from others in the name of God. How can a uniform, which separates people from others who don't wear that uniform, ever be construed as an expression of spirituality? flamingriver53
