Guest guest
IAM TechniqueSM INTEGRATED AMRITA MEDITATION TECHNIQUEsm, IAMSM is a powerful meditation technique created by Amma to help people find fulfillment in life. IAMSM refines one's mind, bringing practitioners greater clarity and insight, opening channels of creativity and deepening one's sense of awareness throughout the day. The practice also increases one's energy and helps alleviate tension, thus improving mental and physical health. Ultimately IAMSM takes the practitioners to the goal of human life-realisation of the Divinity pervading all of creation. Amma's senior disciples teach the technique free of charge in all parts of the world. http://www.amma.org.uk/iam.htm

I just don't get that. I took the course, and I really like the meditation, which I'll post on later. But the secrecy thing really bothers me. Seems cultic, you know, insider-outsider stuff. The reasons they gave for the secrecy are twofold: (a) They don't want anyone but themselves teaching it. Apparently some guy started teaching another thing Amma came up with, the Ma-Om, meditation, and was charging for it, and Amma a/o her org didn't like that. But they could just require certification or something; the secrecy level they're into is overdone. (b) Same idea as keeping the mantra secret: keep it inside, hidden, potentized, don't talk about your practice. Well, fine, but this is the same practice being given to everyone, and anyway it's well known that most mantras Amma gives follow a basic formula (Om - Bija - Deity - Namaha). So that doesn't wash either. Sounds like an overreaction to me, classic groupthink pushing the pendulum too far. IMO, they should just teach this at when Amma tours. Could be taught in a few hours. The long weekend format was nice, though, as it allowed lots of time for review, as well as devotional activities, which made it into a nice little retreat. The meditation itself? As with Bikram, nothing new per se, just a unique (?) combination of things. I'm sworn to secrecy, but without violating that (rather silly) agreement can say that it's basically a particular, timed sequence of yogic stretches, breathing exercises and visualizations involving the chakras. Takes about half an hour, and there's a lot of stuff packed into that time; a pretty dynamic meditation, good for beginners with wandering minds,,, ...................................... danny
