Guest guest
Dear friends, Namaste. My name is Omer and I live in Israel. I recently become aware of the existence of Sahaja-Yoga though I'm completely ignorant about it. I would like the group, if possible, to give me information on a small subject regarding Sri Mataji. There was an article about Sri Mataji and Sahaja-Yoga posted in the website of a daily newspaper here is Israel. What got my attention (as well of the attention of other Israeli's, I believe) was an angry reply to the article posted by one of the readers. It was regarding Sri Mataji's book titled " Mata Modern Era " . The quotations from the book (in free translation from Hebrew) were as follow: " The Jews (in Hitler's time) were known as religious and moral, but also as greedy. They would lend grate money with exaggerated interest, as well as persecute the borrowers for their entire lives. " (Page 96 below) " A terrible war happened in Germany against the jews which should have been killed in the gas chambers for their greed and cruelty and, According to Hitler's view, the killers of Christ. But in many ways could those greedy people be controlled. " (Page 99) " They (the jews) are mourning at the Western Wall, wearing the Tora in small talismans, but the most important thing to them is the collecting the borrowers money and buy diamonds at any cost. " (Page 130) Also, it is stated that the book contains " Racism and defamation against Catholics, French and Italians " . Now, my question is: Were these quotes out of content? Are they correct? Can I have the original quotes? And is Sri Mataji indeed an anti-Semite (which can, as you imagine, be very bad for Sahaja Yoga in Israel)? I would very much like to know your stand on this subject as soon as possible so I can reply this post and let people know the truth. The future of Sahaja Yoga in Israel is in your hand! Hope this finds you in the best of health, Your servant: Omer

Guest guest
Dear Omer, Namaste. My name is Alex and I also live in Israel. You asked " Is Sri Mataji indeed an anti-Semite? " The answer is very simple and clear. No, She is not and cannot be. Shri Mataji is not anti any nation. Quite the contrary, Sahaja Yoga has united people from different nations in a very sweet and natural manner, because the essence of Sahaja Yoga is pure Love. Let's speak a little about Shri Mataji's book. In my opinion the best way to know about the book is to read it and the best way to understand Sahaja Yoga is to practice it for a while. At least I did so and found that Sahaja Yoga is a real treasure for every seeker of Truth. I am not sure that the author of " an angry reply " read the book. There are some so called Ex- members who unfortunately are trying to fight Sahaja Yoga through the internet. So, people inevitably use some " knowledge " or information advertised by them. For instance the numbers of the pages quoted are all incorrect. Therefore I was unable to find all the quotations, but just some. First of all regarding the question about racism of Shri Mataji there is a chapter called " Racialism " in the book. Below are some sentences from this chapter: " Racialism is the greatest curse of human beings that has been created by themselves " . " Diversity of bodies, faces and skin created by nature is very important because otherwise everybody would like the same… Unfortunately the colored people were called primitive, while the white-skinned were regarded as advanced. It is intolerable arrogance to discriminate between one human being and another because of the colour of his skin. They all have the same heart, the same feelings, the same expression of love and hate. They all smile the same way, they all weep he same way " . (Page 110) There is also some critique in the book, for example: " There are books and books written about drinking in French. … I have heard that the French show not only nude women, but also nude men these days through their media. " (Page 124) There are more things, but one can see that all this is far away from racism. It is more like a critique of immoral culture or wrong behavior. The same about Hitler and Jews: " … Hitler gathered his forces over a period of years when Germany was openly very immoral. … He was worse than a devil, as many describe him… These ego-oriented people want to show that they are in charge of the whole world and think that they have every right to be cruel to other persons under some pretext or under some sort of justification. Hitler himself did not try to find any reason why he hated the Jews. There is no evidence in his own life to show that he was tortured or even harmed by any Jew living in Germany. He took full advantage of the German situation which was very immoral… Jews were known to be very religious and moral, but also very greedy. They always lent money on exorbitant terms and then pursued the borrowers all their lives, often causing distress. " (Page 125) So, Hitler decided to destroy Jews, as according to him they supported immorality and " …he got hold of German young generation … who have no sense of discretion. … Instead of killing the Jews, why did Hitler not think of improving the society … Unfortunately, such ideas which are constructive can never come into the mind of a mega ego-oriented person " . (Page126) " ... Hitler also gave the very deep color of patriotism to his devilish work " (Page 129) So, it is about how people like Hitler act and what they think about Jews. It is not practical for me to type the whole book here, but I hope you understand that the book is much deeper than some people may want us to think. Even if there is some criticism, so what? Have we no problem? Or are we afraid of facing the truth? The book is about the modern world and its many diverse problems. Here are some more words from the Preface: " To me, most of the human beings are like the deities who are still in stone form and who can be transformed, with Kundalini awakening into angels. I hope this book will not hurt people … " " It is too much for a Mother to talk about the ills of her children, but unless that is faced, I don't think the children can ever get their benevolence and reach the ultimate goal, which is their self realization. So I would ask, all of you not to get angry with me, but to understand that out of my tremendous compassion and love I have written this book for the benevolence of the people, with whatever English I can use, with whatever literature I can use, with whatever style I could adopt " . (Page 3) In closing I would say that everyone around the world who practices Sahaja Yoga knows that the nature of Shri Mataji is extremely kind, loving and compassionate. She has also spoken about Israeli yogis with tremendous respect and appreciation in Her lectures. We (Israeli Yogis) also spoke with Her many times. There is absolutely no way to think about Her as being anti–Semitic or racist. It is an absurd idea. We also feel tremendous love of other yogis from all over the world towards us (Israeli Yogis). So, I very much hope that this answers your questions about Shri Mataji and Her book. With Love, Alex http://www.sahajayoga.org.il/
