Abdul Kalam along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after presenting the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management to C.P. Srivastava in New Delhi on Saturday. NEW DELHI: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Saturday presented the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award to retired IAS officer Chandrika Prasad Srivastava for his contribution in the field of maritime exploration and excellence in public administration, academics and management. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and a plaque. The awardee has been designated as a Lal Bahadur Shastri Fellow and his name inscribed on the honours roll of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Delhi.The participants in the Rasthrapati Bhavan award ceremony included Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, and the former Union Minister and son of Lal Bahadur Shastri, Anil Shastri. Mr. Shastri, who is also the chairman of the institute, said: " The award honours people from whom the younger generation can draw inspiration. " Mr. Srivastava is the founding Chancellor Emeritus of the World Maritime University, Malmo, Sweden. He has also been the chairman of the governing board of the IMO International Maritime Law Institute, Malta, and chairman of the Government of India Committee on Maritime Education and Training.
