Guest guest
Dear All, Here is a URL where more can be learned about the Buddha. In it, there is a reference given by H.G. Wells, where he states: " In the Buddha you see clearly a man, simple, devout, lonely, battling for light -- a vivid human personality, not a myth. He too gave a message to mankind universal in character. Many of our best modern ideas are in closest harmony with it. All the miseries and discontents are due, he taught, to selfishness. Before a man can become serene he must cease to live for his senses or himself. Then he merges into a great being. Buddha in different language called men to self-forgetfulness 500 years before Christ. In some ways he is nearer to us and our needs. He was more lucid upon our individual importance and service than Christ and less ambiguous upon the question of personal immortality. " i take special note of the phrase.... " then he merges into a great being " . i believe this has the same meaning that Shri Mataji gives, when She says that 'the individual drop becomes part of the Ocean'. i believe what the Buddha taught is really the same experience, except that he took a different path or approach and did not use religious language/terms such as " God " , " Incarnation " , " Spirit " , and " Soul " as the other spiritual traditions do. However, i believe that it must eventually be realized by followers of Buddha and others, that regardless of the 'language' used, be it religious or non-religious, spiritual or non-spiritual language, the fact is that the underlying experience of truth is universal. Here then, is the URL which is quite straightforward and simple to read and it gives a good basic understanding of the Buddha and his teachings.
