WAYNE HU and MARTIN WHITE are trying to unveil the history of the universe. Hu

is associate professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of

Chicago. He received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California,

Berkeley, in 1995. His research pursuits include the investigation of dark

energy, dark matter and the formation of cosmological structure. White,

professor of astronomy and physics at Berkeley, earned his Ph.D. in physics from

Yale University in 1992. In addition to exploring how structure in the universe

came to be, he is interested in the connections between astrophysics and

fundamental physics.
