It is not very clear who these magi or " magians " are, however the URL below gives a pretty good understanding: http://www.ldolphin.org/magi.html It is interesting that Jesus's early contact with people not from His religion of birth was to be a continuing pattern in His Life. In what used to be called the " Hidden Years of Jesus " (and which are hidden no longer)... we have discovered that He was actually very active in His Spiritual Work. The only times He ever was 'in hiding' was when He was too outspoken with a priest in a village 'so-to-speak' and then He had to flee that village before they would 'do Him in'. Yes... our mild and gentle Jesus was not always gentle and mild. He had His determined side, where He spoke the Truth, regardless of what was 'politically correct'. In other words, He gave the " Absolute Truth " and when the truths that were being taught veered from the Absolute Truth, He dared to correct that, and He did that very openly too. Jesus did what WCASY would definitely not have approved of. He dared to queston 'religious authority', when it did not come up to the standards of the Absolute Truth. The problem is that all priestly types set themselves up as infallible. A person might challenge this and say: What makes you say that they have made themselves infallible? The answer would be: At the point where to " even question them " becomes a sin; that is when they have made themselves infallible! When to even question their authority becomes a sin 'in and of itself', that is when they have made themselves infallible already. Jesus gained many spiritual friends in the different spiritual traditions/religions throughout His travels, but He also made many enemies... just by telling the Truth: " Why should a person make enemies by " telling the Truth? " There is something wrong with a system when a person makes enemies when they tell the Truth... isn't there? Here is the next chapter. Then Herod called the magian priests again and told them what the masters of the Jewish law had said; and then he sent them on the way to Bethlehem.
