Would you try to bring them as soon as possible in the thoughtess awareness without giving them explanations and let them discover by themselves? ....... Thank you for your opinion. Love From Nicole Dear Nicole and All, Part I - Introduction Thanks Nicole for asking these great questions, which are pivotal in informing about the Blossom Time that Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi has brought to humanity. I understand exactly where you are coming from, that is, that we all learned the 'SYSSR techniques' and were told this was the 'set way' to do things, when telling others about Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Her Message, and so forth. Yet if we study all of Shri Mataji's teachings and absorb them in our heart, mind, and soul, we will discover that these teachings are not 'technique-driven'... as we had been led to believe, by those who have overly focused on what they called the 'Sahaj techniques', which they had made into a SYSSR (Sahaja Yoga Subtle System Religion). I admit that myself was conditioned by the SYSSR too, but I always maintained the awareness of my Spirit and Kundalini throughout, not losing sight of the goal and/or destination. Amongst that ritual, I put my complete faith (and surrender) in the Adi Shakti, and experienced what only the Kundalini is able to give, which is beyond rituals. This Divine technique is the individual experience of the Kundalini, within each of us, and She does all the work. Her work is not a work of ritual. In other words, She is 'not into ritual' but She is 'into spontaneity'! She does not 'ritualise Herself' but She is very spontaneous, interacting with each person, that meets Her, in an individual way, as She is your individual Spiritual Mother! i cannot say more strongly, that " there is no set procedure about Her! " Perhaps, i need to share, what i have experienced from the Divine technique of the Kundalini, to make this point clear, that there is no set procedure about the Kundalini who does all the work. What i can say about Her, is that She has given me some pretty amazing moments of experience! On one occasion i had a very dramatic clearing and cleansing, done by my Kundalini Mother, at which time i also saw the face of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi looking down at me, while I lay in bed, during this process. i did not realise at the time, that i was actually seeing Her from my Sahasrara, where She resides. I just thought I was seeing Her above my head! Another time, the Divine technique of Kundalini came to me as a moving Cool Breeze that seemed to come towards me, as it were, from the open verandah doors, through which I could see a beautiful lake. i was in communion with the Divine, when this divine cool breeze wafted in, as a light lilting Spirit of Wind, from the direction of the lake, through the open verandah doors, and coming to me, and wrapping Herself around me, in spirals of Love, which spread from the lowest chakra spiral up to the next, and up to the next, and with each subsequent upward spiral of Love, bringing that area of my body into absolute, perfect bliss... culminating with the deepest tangible experience that is unimaginable, until experienced! The power of the Holy Ghost, or Kundalini, is intelligent, and She will do Her Will (Her Divine technique) as She wills or wants to do it. She knows the person from the 'inside-out'. When you deeply desire Her, surrender to Her, and soforth, that is satisfying the pre-conditions, whereby She will make Herself known to you. She knows if you are sincere. She is your individual Mother that has accompanied you from lifetime to lifetime, and knows you better, than you even know yourself, so you cannot fool Her, by any chance! She will come to you, in an individual way, when you deeply desire that relationship with Her. No, it's not about any 'Sahaj techniques'; it's about the Divine technique, the Divine technique of the Kundalini, who alone, goes to the chakras, and awakens the deities so that we can have the fruits of those chakras. This is where Shri Mataji clarifies that there is no techniques, but only the Divine technique: " Tomorrow I will give you all the information about the centres [chakras] and all that and I will tell you how He will judge you, what are your centers that are catching. And then you will judge that and you will know what is the problem, how to get it done, how to get it all right. There is no technique for that. Like if you sow a seed, it becomes a tree. There is no technique. If you have flowers, they become fruit. It's a living thing, and living things don't have any technique. But once you get connected, then you must know the Divine laws and you must know the Divine technique. But first you must be realised. Unless and until you are put to the Mains, how can you use this machine? You are not yet put to the Mains. How can you do anything? It's like telephoning somewhere without having a connection! You must firstly be connected to the Divine (but this is not a difficult thing). In modern times it is very easy. Formerly, it was, like you can say, a tree. In the beginning you only get one or two flowers. But the time has come! The Blossom Time has come!! " (Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – Formal Talk – New York, U.S.A. – 'Sahaja Yoga in America' - 19/09/81) In Her approach, Shri Mataji focused everything on the Kundalini, saying that all this work is done by the Kundalini alone! But the danger came, when some grasped what Shri Mataji gave as helpful advice, and made them into " Sahaj techniques' and then focused on them, while forgetting the Divine Technique, which is the thing to focus on, while using Shri Mataji's helpful advice. Here is what Shri Mataji says about this work being done by Kundalini alone: " All this work is done by Kundalini [power of the Holy Spirit] alone! If She does not go to any Chakra and awaken any deity, we cannot even have the fruits of those chakras, so it is all Her work, all Her ascent, all Her understanding and wisdom which has given us this beautiful state where we call ourself as Yogis, so I would request all of you to pay attention to your Kundalini, keep her awakened all the time, keep your vibrations. Not only keep your vibrations all right, but also have a different attitude towards others. Don't say anything about how wrong they are, but just see how right they are, and what good they are capable of. She is a Virgin, and still so wise. In the same way we have to be very wise, very sensible. We cannot afford to waste time now, because we have to save the whole world, it's our responsibility. " (Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi – Gauri Puja – Auckland, New Zealand – 08-04-91) So here is what happens, when people are so focused on the 'Sahaj techniques', that they forget about the 'Divine technique' " Someone told Shri Mataji that they could not get rid of their negativity, no matter what they did! They were at their `wit's end'! So Shri Mataji told that person to 'shoebeat themselves', (which is not literally beating oneself with shoes, but it is writing what negativity is affecting one's self, writing it on the Mother Earth, and beating it with a shoe, while surrendering it to the Universe or to the Divine). Now, Shri Mataji taught much gentler ways to surrender to the Divine that did not require such drastic measures. This person had been at their 'wit's end' you see! Then one morning, Shri Mataji was surprised to see all of the Sahaja Yogis 'following suit'! They had all lined up and were doing this shoebeating, which helpful advice She had given to this fellow, who was at his 'wit's end'! She was surprised and asked them why they were all doing it, when the didn't need it! So this 'rote behaviour' or 'ritualised behaviour' happens when there is not the deep spiritual understanding that there are no techniques, but only the Divine technique! That is also why the majority of Sahaja Yogis, can only get halfway to their destination, and are 'sliding in place', that is, staying on the one spot, and not moving forward, as Shri Mataji recently 'put it' in Her Message given through brother tiger! They have forgotten that there is a destination to reach, which is the Land of Sahasrara, which is where Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi resides! It is not just about meditation! The goal or destination must be kept in mind, when teaching other seekers of the truth. All incarnations and prophets spoke about this destination. It was called the Kingdom of God by Christ. Shri Mataji calls it the Land of Sahasrara! Shri Mataji did not want Sahaja Yoga to become a ritualised religion of techniques, making Sahaja Yoga appear to be a wishy-washy concoction of lemons and chillies!: " If you put one little fish and two eggs for ten people with one chilli to say that it is Sahaja Yoga, maybe a lemon, they [people] will think 'What's going on here? Wishy-washy stuff!!!' (Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi - Sheffield, UK, September 21 1985) Shri Mataji did not want Sahaja Yoga to become a fount of analysis, either!: " Now we have the situation, whereby people are clinging to their realization, and on the other hand, they are analyzing everything! The legs get analysed, the feet get analyzed; even the nails get analyzed! " (Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi " Becoming " - Old Alresford, England - 18 May 1980) Part II – The Divine Technique Approach being different from the Subtle System Approach Regarding teaching another person on how to meditate on Shri Mataji, if the teacher himself (or herself) is stuck on the subtle system, then the person they are teaching, will rarely go any further either, though there are exceptions to every rule. They can however be the catalyst for another person to have their Self Realisation, because they have their Self Realisation. It is only when the teacher is aware of the need to arrive at a destination of Sahasrara, that they can lead others there also. That is why their approach will also be different, because they will be teaching that one has to move forward, and not stay 'sliding in one place'. That said, all that Shri Mataji taught and the advice She gave, is there at our disposal, to be used as help for others, if and when needed. Part III – How I would approach teaching someone to meditate on Shri Mataji So, it is clear that a different approach, than the SYSSR approach, is needed. With the Divine Technique Approach, if someone asked me to teach them how to meditate on Shri Mataji, this is basically how I would approach it, so they will not think of Sahaja Yoga as 'techniques' but as a living growing evolutionary process: I would firstly tell them that the main goal of Sahaja Yoga Meditation is to help us get in touch with our Higher Self or Spirit, although when we do, our overall wellbeing also improves with time. I would tell them that in order to do that, we need to raise our attention (which is not the same thing as our thoughts) beyond the field of thought. Then I would say, that I will take them through a Self Realisation Guided Meditation, that will help them get in touch with their Spirit, after which there would be a time of meditation. They should feel nice and relaxed when they come out of the Self Realisation Guided Meditation. This is where we usually have them check to see if they can feel a Cool Breeze emitting from the fontanelle. I would not make too much of a production about it, except for briefly mentioning that they may feel a Cool breeze emitting from the fontanelle, and you can let them check if they feel anything, but tell them not to worry, if they don't feel it at first. It is best to take them into meditation, while they are in the meditational state, rather than talking too much. The focus would be more on " going within " , than on giving them external techniques, which will immediately put their attention 'on externals' than on the Eternal Within. Let them feel the integration of their Spirit! When they have had a nice meditation, which is the norm, you could simply explain about the energy that is " with us " in the sacrum bone, which the Greeks knew about, which is why they called the sacrum as " sacred " and then tell them that through the Self Realisation Guided Meditation, this energy that was not active, has become activated within them. It has raised their attention (which is not their thoughts) to their Higher Self or Spirit. I would also say that Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi is the catalyst for this unprecedented happening, that She has, we could say, 'lit our candle with Her Light, and that we can use our 'lit candle' to light other candles, also. I would say that Shri Mataji's Photo is helpful to concentrate the meditation on, and imbibe the spiritual vibrations from, but that we can meditate anywhere, anytime, on the Divine Within our own spiritual temple, just by " going within " ! That there are no hard and fast rules here! No techniques, but just the Divine technique, and once we are in touch with our Spirit, She will guide us! You asked: " Would you try to bring them as soon as possible in the thoughtless awareness without giving them explanations and let them discover by themselves? " Yes, that is what I would do! I think the subtle system approach of pushing all these 'Sahaj techniques' rather than just imparting Self Realisation, the Divine laws, and the Divine technique of Kundalini, has turned people off. They have become overloaded and felt they had to follow techniques, rules, and regulations! Let them experience their Inner Spirit... the thoughtless awareness state, and grow from there, with your spiritual guidance! What has been turned into 'Sahaj techniques' was originally, helpful advice from Shri Mataji. It was not to become a ritualised thing! When you raise your kundalini manually, you are raising your kundalini manually. It is not " a technique " , but an interaction with your Kundalini, whereby you are engaging your Kundalini energy, and working with it. This is the way it needs to be taught, being very careful that you are focusing on the Divine all the Time! (The teaching terminology used, must itself be in a 'Divine focused' way, rather than in a 'subtle system focused' way. We already know the results of the 'subtle system focused' approach, which has seen the majority of Sahaja Yogis, remaining stuck on the subtle system! So, the Divine must never be lost sight of, and to start talking about 'Sahaj techniques' rather than about the 'Divine technique', gets people to thinking in a ritualised, unspontaneous way. You are learning to work with your kundalini energy. It's the same case with the Bhandan. It is not " a technique " . It is working with your energy. This is advice that Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi gave, to help us to work with our Kundalini energy. How a thing is taught, makes a big difference. To call it a technique, makes it feel like a dry thing, and they start becoming like ritualised robots. People can eventually, also put their attention on Kundalini, and She will rise automatically to the Sahasrara without any need for manual intervention. That is not a ritualised thing, by any means! It is the opposite... " spontaneous " ! This must also be informed about, somewhere along the line, how this spiritual progression or maturation happens! So the impartation from spiritual teacher to student, needs to be done in such a way that it is lovingly given and received, as a wholistic spiritual process, and not dividing it into bits and pieces, of this and that....... not 'putting one little fish and two eggs for ten people with one chilli, to say that it is Sahaja Yoga, maybe a lemon'! We are not helping people, just to stack up numbers in an organisation. Sahaja Yoga is an Organism, or " Living Organisation " as Shri Mataji called it, which is what 'Organism' means. It is a living organisation. So we are here to connect people to their Living Organisation, which is their Higher Self, or Spirit, which is the same as having their connection, with the " Divine Within " ! There is time for them to discover for themselves! If they are real seekers, they will also ask questions, and you will just have to guide them along to greater spiritual depth! That is really what it is about. It is a privilege and an enjoyment! They themselves have to want it, and they have to want to grow deeper. If they do not want it, and do not want to grow deeper, then the process stops, not because of yourself, but because of the non-desire of the person. We are only channels. We do not force things on to people. It has to be the person's own desire or decision. Shri Mataji promised that once we help people to realise their Spirit, that She will take over from there! 'Realising their Spirit' is not the same as applying the advice Shri Mataji gave. You can explain to them that with the energy being awakened, that the light has come in, and that they will be able to witness their ego and conditionings with that newly enlightened attention. Most of human problems come from our ego and conditionings, and when these are addressed, most of our problems go away. You can tell them that because our attention has been raised beyond our thoughts, we can see what we could not see before, that is, our ego, and conditionings, and by watching or witnessing these, we have the power of the Spirit, to transform ourselves! If you find that people are progressing nicely, that's good. If there are some that are having difficulties getting through to their Spirit, that is when you can explain how the elements, such as water, earth, air, fire and ether are living forces that will also work with us. These are also the elements within our mental, emotional and bodily faculties and/or areas. It is the approach that makes the difference, that is, do not make working with the elements, into a rigid religious ritual. The most natural way to help people, is to respond with the right advice when needed, and not as something that is religiously imposed from without, and which a person may not understand why they need it at that time, so may turn off. They may have been happy to just " go within " ! They may be highly advanced souls, in fact. It is just a different approach, Nicole, but still using all the tools that Shri Mataji gave us. I hope that what I have discovered for myself, is helpful to you and others too. The difference between the 'Sahaj techniques' and the 'Divine technique' is one of approach, and one of not making helpful advice into rigid religious rituals! That is about it! The 'Divine technique' approach, is more wholistically integrated into One Whole, and also includes all the Incarnations and prophets essential teachings, which agree with each other, as the Source is the same. It is about integration, free will, self-discovery, an evolutionary journey, and above all, the Joy of your Spirit! What more can one ask! So i hope i have answered your questions to your satisfaction. As you have seen, they are not pat answers, as pat answers do not do justice to the questions you have put forward. One more point. It is a good idea to give people the best forum and website available that explains everything Shri Mataji Nirmala taught, plus how these essential teachings blend in very well, with all the teachings of the Incarnations and prophets.... namely: http://www.adishakti.org/ and / warmest regards, violet
