" Jesus, on the other hand, manifests the infinite God in historic time

and place and in his historic death, dying on the cross. There are

many ancient myths of the god who dies and rises again but these are

symbolic figures and their meaning is deep but different. Jesus'

death, on the other hand, is not simply symbolic. He was an historic

person, and the descriptions we have of his suffering and death, in

the four different accounts in the Gospels, are given in minute

detail. On that historic death and on the resurrection the whole

Christian faith centres. The experience of the disciples after the

death of Jesus, that the body was not to be found in the tomb and

Jesus' appearances to them, convinced them that he was risen from the

dead. They understood that, unlike Lazarus who was raised from the

dead but simply carried on with his limited life in this world, Jesus

was alive for evermore, transcending this world. What this means is

that in the death and resurrection of Jesus the matter of this world

was transformed. In other doctrines, in other great faiths, matter

is often conceived simply as an appearance and the appearance

disappears when we have reached the one reality. But in the Christian

understanding the matter of the universe is transformed. The atoms,

the molecules, the cells of Jesus' body, which are part of this

cosmic energy, were changed. Matter is a temporary condensation of

energy and that structure of energy which made up the body of

Jesus on the cross was transformed into a new structure. It maybe

suggested that in the resurrection that structure of energy became a

psychic body, which is a more subtle body. His body was first of all

what is called a gross body which anyone could recognise, and then it

became a subtle body, which could not always be recognised. This

subtle body could appear and disappear, as we know from the Gospel

narratives. Finally he becomes a spiritual body at the Ascension. He

transcends matter at both the gross and the subtle levels and enters

the spiritual level and, with that transformation, the matter of this

universe is taken up into the Godhead. That is the Christian mystery.

It is amazing when we begin to grasp it, that the matter which

exploded in the so-called Big Bang fifteen or even twenty billion

years ago at that point was finally transfigured. In fact the

transfiguration has been going on all through history and we

ourselves are involved in this transformation of matter, as

consciousness is working on matter. The Christian understanding is

that in Jesus consciousness finally took possession of matter, and

this means that matter was spiritualized. In him the matter of the

universe was, in other words, made totally conscious and became one

with God, in the Godhead.

“The doctrine of bodily resurrection, linked closely to the soul's

nature and destiny, suffers like a fate. The ancients knew little or

nothing about the human organism — its chemical constituents, its

functioning parts, its psychology — and even less about the nature of

death. Modern man has measured corruption, can detail the chemical

changes that take place when bodily life ceases, has a clear idea of

what precisely corruption and decay of the human frame connote, and

defines human death precisely by the cessation of the observable

functions of the body. The three religions define death as the moment

when the soul leaves the body.

On the other hand, the scientist cannot accept the " outside "

explanation: that a god will " resurrect " the corrupted body. He knows

that in a living body today the actual molecules which compose it

were not part of it some time ago. In another decade it will be made

up of molecules which at present are elsewhere: in African lions, in

passion-flowers of the Amazon, in Maine lobsters, in earth in

Patagonia, and in the fur of a Polar bear. For the scientist, the

body as such has truly ceased to exist. No " shade " or reduced form of

the body exists in an " underworld " or in Elysian fields. The body has

ceased to exist. He therefore finds the resurrection of the body

unintelligible.”

" I am happy to know so many of you have come here and I feel this is

a very important Puja, not only for Australia but for the whole

world, because it has the greatest Message which we have actualized

now in Sahaja Yoga. We have to understand the Message of Christ.

There are many people in this world who try to show off that they are

very great rationalists and they have a right to pass any remark they

like about Christ. I was reading the newspapers today. I was

surprised where they are all saying one by one that, " I reject this

part of Christ that He was born with Immaculate Conception. I reject

that He was resurrected. I reject this and I reject that. "

Who are you? Because you can write, because you have a flair, how can

you say such things? Just without finding out, you are a scholar,

maybe you are very well read, maybe that you think you are capable of

saying whatever you like about any subject, but subject of

spirituality cannot be dealt by people who are not even Self-

Realized. "

" There are lots of myths in the Bible and one of them is that at the

Time of Resurrection your bodies will come out of the graves. This is

not only for Christians, but also for the Muslims and Jews. Think of

this - What remains in the grave after many years? Only a few bones.

And if these bones came out how can you give them Realization? Think

of it. It is a big myth. Not possible logically.

In Nal Damyanti Akhyan they have clearly given that when the Kalyug

will come, all these seekers who are seeking in the hills and

mountains will be born again, and they will be given their Self-

Realization! Their Kundalinis will be awakened and that is logical,

because that is what we are doing today. "

" In those days of complete chaos and anarchy, He (Jesus Christ) stood

up and talked about Truth and about such things like Spirit, like

ascent. I mean, they were all blind people. They didn't know what it

was He was talking. And He talked about it. There's lot of myths that

exist in the Bible and one of them is that when the Resurrection Time

will come, your bodies will come out of your graves. It is not only

with Christianity, but also with the Muslims and also for the Jews.

Now think of it, after so many years, what remains in the graves? Few

bones and these few bones, if they come out, how can you give them

Realization? Think of it. It's a big myth. One should understand.

Logically, it's not proper. So, what is the thing? "

" That’s what it is today. I do not know that what it is to that we

are now in the Blossom Time, as I call it, because many flowers are

born and they are to become the fruits. This is the Resurrection

Time, which is described in all the scriptures, but it’s not like

this, the way they had described us. Something wrong with them that

all the dead bodies who are in the graves will come out of the

graves. I mean, how much is left out of them, God knows. Must be some

bones or maybe some skulls there. So they’ll come out of the graves

and they will get their Resurrection. This is a very wrong idea.

Once I happened to mean a fellow, a Muslim from Bosnia and he told

Me, " I want to die for my religion, for God’s sake. " I said, " But

why? Who told you to die? " He said, " Now, if I die in the name of

God, I’ll be resurrected. " I said, " It’s all wrong. That’s not the

way it is going to work out. Resurrection is going to work out this

way that at this time, all these souls will take their birth. All

these souls will take their birth and they will be resurrected as

human beings they’ll have to come. "

That’s why we find all kinds of funny people these days, all kinds of

cruel, criminal, all kinds of idiotic, stupid, I mean very queer,

weird, funny ideas which find such, such a variety of people and such

a tremendous population that we should understand they have to have

their chance of Resurrection. But how many will come? That’s the

point. How many are going to come? "

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

" The Message of His life is not the Cross but the Resurrection. He

was resurrected. That was one of the things He did so that now you

can be resurrected. Every Incarnation is something unique. But the

end of it was the Resurrection. He did it because He had to die.

Otherwise how can you resurrect yourself? There are lots of things

which look difficult but which are not. "

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

Christmas Puja, India - December 25, 1993

" It is very hard to believe that we can become the Spirit. This is

one of the big myths of Modern Times and many a times when I speak

about becoming the Spirit people say that, " How can you say like

that? " How can it be that easy? "

But it is a living process of our evolution and if it is done by the

Power of a living God, then it has to be very simple, has to be very

easy...

Today that Time has come. That Time has come. The Time of Judgment

has come and at this Time we have to see that we'll be judging

ourselves; but not by some sort of an authority, but by something

which is within us which we call as the Kundalini, is placed in the

triangular bone called as sacrum. Just see, Greeks knew about it.

That's why they call the bone as sacrum. But what is this bone in the

biblical understanding - it is the reflection of the Holy Ghost. "

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi

The Knowledge Of The Roots, Cardiff, U.K. — August 8, 1984

" So one has to understand that evolutionary process is absolutely

free, without any effort and you can't pay for your evolution. It is

spontaneous. Like you have this Mother Earth and you put the seed in

it, then it sprouts by itself. What do you do? Nothing. It is

spontaneous and that's what exactly happens to you, that

spontaneously you achieve that state of the Spirit....

So science cannot answer many questions and one of them is that why

are we on this Earth? What is the purpose of our life? What is the

goal of our life? What is our identity? This question is not asked

and, if asked, they cannot answer. They cannot answer this simple

question, " Why are we on this Earth? " But one has to know that we are

on this Earth to become the Spirit, to enter into the Kingdom of God.

This is our purpose. That's why we are here and then to be the

instruments of that Divine Power, which is All-Pervading. "
