Memories of our Divine Mother: 1. IT BEGAN IN INDIA

Introduction

There are many, many stories and memories of our Divine Mother,

which have not yet been recorded on video, audio or set to paper

but yet have been experienced and treasured by thousands of Her

children.

From this ocean of memories, until now only held in trust by each

of us, as our individual experience, some few sweet stories have

now been collected in this volume.

This book is our history - incomplete, fragmentary and as vulnerable

as memories are. This is our living history - a history of that

culture that we call Sahaja Yoga. It chronicles the growth of our

limited awareness of our Mother, Her Holiness Shri Mataji Nirmala. It

records our discovery of ourself. And it celebrates our relationship

with each of our brothers and sisters, whose every experience is also

our own.

Thank you, Shri Mataji, for allowing us to collect these beautiful

remembrances of Your care and love, of the laughter and gentle

correction, of actually being with You and experiencing first hand

Your Incarnation. From the simple way You lift a teacup, we can learn

so much.

Thank you for the warmth and simplicity and all the many ways in

which You shower Your Love. And thank you for the great play of Shri

Mahamaya that makes seekers love and trust You, often without yet

understanding the Truth that You are.

The heart of this book is to remind us of the magic of Sahaja Yoga.

The spirit of this book is to help future brothers and sisters to

know a small part of the beauty and glory of Shri Mataji as a loving,

caring Mother whose wonderful power of divine love dispels all our

uncertainties.

Sift now through the words that we found when we tried to remember.

What follows is our collective memory, our story together ...

Early India Tours

Miracle in Ganapatipule

Just before the programmes at Ganapathiphule started, Mr. Chavhan and

seven yogis went with Shri Mataji to do a public programme in

Ratnagiri. After the programme was finished, they were to catch a

ferry back to Mumbai. On being told that this ferry would be very

late, Shri Mataji said that they should still leave now for the

ferry. The ferry was to be taken from a place called Jaigad. I knew

that it was way too early and also that there was nothing to do there

for timepass.

`Mother,' I told Shri Mataji, `there is a Ganesha temple on the sea,

which we could go and see. It is only about a half an hour away, so

we will easily be back in time.'

Shri Mataji said it was okay. We all packed into cars and went to see

this Ganesha temple. It is at sea level and sometimes the sea enters

into the temple at high tide. Shri Mataji went inside the temple,

where the swayambhu was at sea level, to check the vibrations. Then

Shri Mataji came out and told us that this swayambhu is very awakened

and very powerful. In fact, it is much more powerful than the

astavinayakas in Maharashtra. These are the eight Ganesha swayambhus

in and around Maharashtra — swayambhus from Mother Earth.

`Why didn't you notice this before?' Shri Mataji asked Chavhan, and

he said that he only came here now for the first time after Sahaja

Yoga. Shri Mataji then said that this place would be used for our

international seminars. Shri Mataji spoke about the swayambhu. It has

got the powerful vibration of Shri Ganesha and also the very powerful

vibration of sea, void, power of Adi Guru Dattatreya. So by coming

here, at least two chakras can get cleared out, Mooladhara and Void.

Chavhan then started thinking about how to arrange all of this and

thinking, `I don't know anyone here to do this' — and getting in a

state.

`So you are now worried about how to do this,' Shri Mataji said.

`Don't worry. I will do everything and will tell you what to do in

good time and automatically everything will work out.' After this, we

all decided to go and watch the sunset and have a foot soak.

`Now I am going to show you a miracle. Look out over the ocean and

tell me what you see,' Shri Mataji said. `Mother, we see the waves

all coming in our direction from all the sides. The waves are coming

towards us.' `Now watch. I will change the direction of the waves,'

Shri Mataji said.

Shri Mataji then walked towards the south and the waves all went in

that direction. Then Shri Mataji walked in the other direction and

the waved all went the other way. Then, when Shri Mataji stood still,

all of the waves also stood still. They seemed to be standing,

waiting for the next instruction.

`You may be doubting, and thinking that possibly the wind is doing

this, so I will show you again,' Shri Mataji said. She then did

everything all over again. Shri Mataji said this is the second time

that She had done this miracle. The first time was in America. After

they had finished at the Ganesha temple, they then went back to

Jaigad to wait for the ferry. By this time, the sun had set and they

were all waiting at the port.

`Now I will show you all another miracle. The Ganesha temple is in

that direction.' Shri Mataji said, and pointed, `Now look. Do you see

anything over there?'

`No, Mother, we can't see anything,' they all said.

Shri Mataji again pointed in the same direction and told them to look

again. As they looked, they could see, slowly appearing a huge stream

of light. It was like a huge cylindrical circle of light, as if

thousands of volts were coming out of Mother Earth and going straight

into the heavens.

`There is no other light around here, not even moonlight, so that

light is coming from the Ganesha temple,' said Shri Mataji. `This

light will not stop until I tell it to. This light is coming from the

swayambhu of Shri Ganesha and I am taking it out.' Shri Mataji then

asked us if we all had seen this light and should She stop it. All

the Sahaja Yogis present said that they had all seen it and that Shri

Mataji could now stop it from coming out of the Ganesha temple. The

light was there for about ten minutes. We all are very lucky to see

such a thing and I have not seen anything like that since.

The Divine Dream

On September 28, 1996, at 7:05 p.m. at Camp Vacamas, New Jersey, USA,

during the Shri Krishna Puja Kash, who had just returned from

Dharamsala (India) a few days earlier, was asked if he was ready for

the book being published. He replied that he was not, without giving

any reason.

On the night of November 17, 1996, Kash's mother was explained in

detail what was actually happening. She was clarified about the

seriousness of the situation. Sahaja Yogis were facing immense

difficulties in spreading Sahaja Yoga. Hundreds came for public

programs but only a tiny fraction returned for weekly follow-up

lessons. Even they quickly left at the faintest whisper of Her

identity. Some refused to attend after seeing documentaries on

television identifying Sahaja Yoga as a sect. Others felt that it was

a `Hindu-thing;' or did not like the idea of removing shoes; or

refused to meditate with Her photograph; or were glued to their past

gurus; or were unable to connect their religions with Self-

Transcendence; or were fearful of Kundalini awakening; or were just

plain confused by strange-sounding names like chakras, nadis, subtle

system, sahasrara, paramchaitanya, kundalini, foot-soak, candle

treatment, shoe-beating and so forth. Sahaja Yogis were unable to

impart even 1% of the teachings of Shri Ojovati Shri Nirmala Devi as

most left after a few sessions. (Some were suspicious why Sahaja Yoga

was free. This was a sure snare of a cult.)

It was obvious that without overwhelming evidence, expressly backed

by their own Holy Scriptures, it would be extremely difficult to

convince them that Shri Adhiparasakthi Shri Nirmala Devi is the One —

the Comforter, the Paraclete, the Redeemer, the Messiah, the " Caller

from a place quite near " (surah 50:41 Qaf), the Hidden Imam Mahdi (Al-

Muntazar) sent by God Almighty to awaken humanity to their final

evolution. Kash had given irrefutable proof that the Kingdom of

Sadashiva does exist! But there was not a soul who was willing to

listen, less believe as to what he had witnessed. Their duty now was

to help him maintain his thoughtless state and spiritually survive

the brutal social climate of North America, and the ridicule and

indifference of fellow Sahaja Yogis. It was time for silence and

perseverance.

The same night Kash dreamt of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi for the first

time. A few hundred Sahaja Yogis were performing a Puja with the

Great Primordial Guru, just beside the sea. After it was over Shri

Mataji called Kash and they walked down some steps and sat down,

facing the sea. They had a long conversation and both kept smiling at

each other. The radiance of Her smile was overwhelming. Bliss and Joy

emanated from Her and penetrated into every pore of his body. The

intensity of the divine atmosphere so overwhelmed him that he had no

desire to talk.

He then observed that the waves were slowly cresting higher and

higher and higher. Then huge waves began to crash on the beach

spraying fine mist all around them. Shri Mataji and Kash began to

laugh in joyous abandon. The conscious sea responded by rising still

higher and higher — Nature paying homage to the Supreme Spirit of the

Universe!

Then Shri Mataji and Kash went back and joined all the other Sahaja

Yogis. It was truly a Divine Dream, the most beautiful of all, one

that he would cherish forever.

" Then we go to the deeper sleep known as Shusupti; is the state where

you have deep sleep and you dream of something that is Reality. Also

you may dream about Me and is the eternal part of the subconscious

where some beautiful information are passed. "
