Seek, Find, Rejoice (128,23-129,19)

(p.304) Matthew asked him, " [isn't... [28] necessary], when it is understood [in

the true sense]? " [29]

The master [said, " ... is] more useful than your [work. Remove] from yourselves

[what can] pursue you and everything [in] your hearts. For as your hearts ...,

[30] so [will you find] a way to overcome the powers above and below. And I say

to you, let one [who has] power renounce [it and] repent, [31] and let one who

[knows] seek and find and rejoice. " [32]

Judas said, " Look, see that all things are [just] like signs over [the

earth], and that is why they have come to be in this way. "

Notes:

[28] Here and below Petersen and Bethge, in 'Nag Hammadi Deutsch', 1.390,

restore to read " circumcision. "

[29] Here and below the restoration is tentative. If the saying discusses

physical circumcision and spiritual circumcision, then cf. 'Gospel of Thomas'

53; 'Romans' 2:25-29.

[30] Perhaps read " [are circumcised]. "

[31] Cf. 'Gospel of Thomas' 8:12.

[32] Cf. 'Gospel of Thomas' 2.
