Dear Friends.

We all at home do many Pooja & Rituals for Our Devine Devi andor Devas. One such daily duty is Lighting the Lamp while Praying.

As a daily routine we Light the Lamp but without knowing the rights & wrongs of the Positioning of the Lamp.

Please find below a brief explanation from Dr T. P.SasiKumar (Scientist, Department of Space, Secunderabad-9) regarding the same and I do hope it will be of help to all my friends.

Varthyam means the deepam, the fire burning vick.

This need to be one to east and the other to west. As while praying in the pooja room, we face east / west. This means the varthyam (vick) one for the GOD / towards the picture and the other towards us. Thus both are in light and the shadow will not fall on GOD / us. This is considered as the best situation.

The evening and morning the lighting must be before the sun set and before the sun rise. At leat 10 minutes earlier, half an hour is better. This is the time when the atmosphere around us goes for a transit / change. The change in atmosphere will not be very much acceptable to the mind / body / spirit / atma et.al. Hence it is adviced to make a harmoneous state at this time of change. The deepam is the best method. For us to get power / concentration / strngth during that time it is suggested to be closer to the lamp and keep praying. The effect will not be seen at everyday of activity but a long term practice will see the result.
