Guest guest
Note: forwarded message attached. What is a Mantra? What is meant by Beejamantra and Ishtamantra? A mantra is a verbal formula granted by God Himself in response to severe penance performed by the great sages in the past. They are all spiritually charged and can induce spiritual awakening in the sadhaka who repeats them with all devotion. As such, mantra is a potential instrument of spiritual upliftment. The God who is very dear to one or the God that a man has chosen as his favourite is the Ishtadevata- the personal God and the mantra related to Him is the Ishtamantra. Many a time this Ishtadevatha will be the Kuladevatha family God, the God being worshipped in the family for generations together. But it need not be like be that. A man can choose any God as his Ishtadevatha and receive the corresponding ishtamantra from a proper Guru. Beejamamtra is the densely power packed portion of the mantra. Usually, it will be a special syllable precedeing the name of the Ishtadevatha to whom the obeisance is paid through Ishtamantra. In Shivadeva mantra, viz. 'Om Namah Shivaya', 'Om' is the beejamantra.beejamantra is like an S.T.D code number or like launching a rocket. Though different mantras have different beejamantra<got from the God Himself>, Om, like a master key, can be applied to any mantra. These mantras are all divine beacons and are verily the sources of spiritual power. There is no hierarchy in their potentiality. They are all equally powerful and can be realized by austere Japa - the only way to harness the power in the Mantra.
