Mythology behind Yogini Maheswari

Maheswari represents Lord Shiva's energy. Lord Shiva represents the

Supreme Being. He is the third member of the Hindu Trinity, the

other two being Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. Owing to His cosmic

activity of dissolution and recreation, the words creator and

destroyer have been associated with Him. Shiva is three eyed, blue

necked, the Divine Cosmic Dancer, both man and woman. He is the

source of fertility in all-living beings. He has gentle as well as

fierce forms. On one hand renounces, on the other hand the ideal

lover. He grants boons, bestows grace and awakens wisdom in His

devotees. Maheswari is considered to be the female energy of Lord

Shiva and also His consort. Regarding Her manifestation, it is

believed that a war took place between the Gods and the demons.

After the demons Chanda and Munda were killed another demon called

Raktavirya entered the battlefield with chariots, elephants, horses

and infantry. Seeing the large troop two other warriors, Goddesses

Kali and Kausiki made a loud sound and from their mouth Maheswari

and Brahmani came out seated on a swan, wearing rosary and holding

water pots in their hands. Thus it was believed that Maheswari was

born to vanquish the demon Raktavirya.
