Guest guest
THE FOUR GREAT SENTENCES. There are four great sentences (Maha Vakyas) takenfrom four Vedas. The first sentence is ‘Aham BrahmaAsmi’. This means that I am like the Lord externally. That means when the Lord comes in Human form He lookslike me. Here the figure of speech is ‘UpamaAlankara’ (Simile). One mode of this figure of speechis ‘Lupta Upama Vachaka’ i.e.; the word ‘Like’ will bemissing. Then the meaning should be taken in thefollowing manner: ‘Aham’= I ‘Brahma’ = God (‘Iva’ =like) ‘Asmi’ = Look. Now the meaning is: ‘I looklike God’ i.e., when God incarnates in human form likeLord Krishna, He just looks like me as far as theexternal appearance is concerned, because the Lord isalso in a human body. Similarly the second sentence is ‘Tat Tvam Asi’. Tvam = You, Tat = God, (Iva = Like), Asi = Look. Thatmeans you look like God. This means that Lord Krishnalooks like you externally. The third sentence is ‘Ayam Atma Brahma’ i.e., AyamAtma = He, (Iva = Like), Brahma = God (Asti = looks). This means he looks like God externally. The essenceof these three sentences is that Lord Krishna lookslike you, him and myself when He is viewed externallybecause the human body is same as any other humanbody. The fourth sentence is ‘Prajnanam Brahma’. This means Brahma = God, Prajnanam = a scholar withspecial divine knowledge. The fourth sentence differentiates Lord Krishna fromthe other human beings because He possesses specialdivine knowledge, which nobody can possess in thisworld. This sentence relates to the internal form ofthe human incarnation. All these four sentences conclude that God comes onlyin the human form in every human generation to avoidpartiality to a particular human generation. Thefourth sentence also indicates that you shouldrecognize such God in human form by His special divineknowledge and not by miracles because miracles aredone by demons also. The Lord is said to be the trueand infinite knowledge by Veda. Bhagavat Gita saysthat the Lord comes to this world only through a humanbody (Manusheem Tanumasritam’). Gita did not mentionthat God comes in any other form. People have takenthe direct meaning of these sentences and thought “Iam God, You are God and He is God”. If you take themeaning like that, do you mean that everybody in thisworld is Lord Krishna? If so, Lord Krishna preachedBagavathgita to Lord Krishna (Himself) only becauseArjuna is also Lord Krishna! -SWAMI Vande Mataram "You are the master of your own destiny" - Swami Vivekananda IISH-ME FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
