Guest guest
Powerful Pradoshams to end the year 2006(Time to Dissolve your sins before the New Year 2007) Pradosham is a day of importance for Shiva and is considered an opportunity to remove negative karma. Pradosham occurs twice every month once during the growing moon period and once during the waning moon period. Praying to Lord Shiva sincerely during that auspicious time is believed to free everyone from their sins, hence the name Pradosha, remover of dosha / Karma. The most auspicious Pradosham are Sani Pradosham (Pradosham that occurs on Saturday) and Somavara Pradosham (Pradosham that occurs on Monday). Saturn pradosham and Somavara pradosham are called as Maha pradosham December 2nd 2006 - Sani Pradosham December 18th 2006 - Somavara Pradosham Saturn Pradosham:-Saturn is one of the most powerful Planets. He moves slowly through the zodiac, 2-1/2 years per sign, so his influence is felt very keenly. Saturn's grace creates Kings from paupers and visa versa. (Dattatreya Shiva Baba has told us that President Bush is now in office because of Saturn's favor.) Because Saturday is the day ruled by Saturn, and Saturn is a form of Shiva, when Pradosham falls on a Saturday the rituals done to remove karma and receive Saturn's grace are greatly amplified. Somavaram Pradosham: One of the names of Lord Shiva is Soma, Lord Someshvara, who has placed the Crescent (the Moon / the Soma) in his matted hair. Somavara (Mondays) are very auspicious for Lord Shiva. Moreover Soma means Saha Uma (Goddess Parvathi). Mondays are not only for Lord Shiva but also very auspicious for Goddess Parvathi. Hence offering poojas on Pradoshams occurring on Mondays not only helps you in gaining the abundant blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi but also enables one to negate the malefic effects caused by Chandra Dosha (afflictions caused by the Moon). Another fierce form of Shiva is Rudra. Rudra's grace can eliminate disease, enemies, and destructive negative influences from within and without. As a form of Shiva, the rituals done on a Saturday Pradosham or Monday Pradosham are also extremely auspicious for Rudra (Lord Shiva). Significance of the Koyambedu Shiva Temple: Pradosham means the removal of sins and can also take place on a daily basis. This is called daily Pradosham. There is only one temple where this daily Pradosham is very effective because of its association with Nandi, the bull of Shiva. The bull was sent to the earth plane to initiate the daily removal of sins at the temple called Koyambedu in Chennai. Koyembedu Shiva temple is the place where the 1st Pradosham was conducted in the Kritha Yuga when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi where in their physical forms. If one attends a Prodosham Pooja once in this temple, it is equal to attending 100 Pradoshams. According to legend, the sage Valmiki lived in this temple. Lord Shiva, known here as Kurungaleeswarar, was worshipped by Lava and Kusa, the twin sons of Rama from the Indian epic the Ramayana. Lava and Kusa were able to rid themselves of their sins at this temple.
