Senate opens every day with a prayer, usually delivered by theSenate Chaplain, currently Barry Black, a Seventh Day Adventist.However, Senators are free to recommend religious leaders from theirhome States to serve as guest chaplains.Zed, an American citizen of Indian origin, remarked that July 12 willbe "an illustrious day for all Americans and a memorable day for us(Hindus)". A resident of Reno, Zed is the Director of Public Affairsand Interfaith Relations of the Hindu Temple of Northern Nevada andPublic Relations Officer for the Indian community."I believe that despite our philosophical differences, we should worktogether for the common objectives of human improvement, love, andrespect for others," the Cybercast News Service quoted Zed as saying.He was still to finalise the prayer for the occasion, but was said tobe contemplating a rendering from scriptures, including the Rig Veda,the Upanishads

and the Bhagavad Gita.
