Well Happy (Calendar) new year to all of Our Groups Members! Before I explain the strange '(Calendar)'. Let me take pleasure in welcoming all new group members. = Muruga Sharanam = I am exactly not sure on Thirunavukkarasar's (Appar) works (The Devaarams). But I suppose Project Madurai may hold a Key to your question. I Believe Project Madurai has aldready completed Thirumoolar Thirumantiram. So may be they have aldready got some works of Appar there. Please check out Project Madurai at http://www.tamil.net/projectmadurai/ Now for the strange (or NOT SO STRANGE '(Calendar)') For most of us - we know that Traditionally the new year DOES NOT start on 1st January, rather starts on dates 45 - 60 days post 1st January - i.e. Sankaranthi etc.. This is very scientific (modern science) and supposedly has it's roots in the Vedic Age. Our great Maharishis laid down the Indian calendar system based on Solar System, and not according to the Whims and Fancies of some fanatic/ arrogant " Kings " . Moreover the system of preparing the calendar (Panchangam) has not changed since the Vedic Times, for the one and only reason - it is all perfect by itself. The Victorian Calendar which underwent major change and became the Gregorian Calendar. What is the science in Our calendar system? - There are two Calendar systemsin our country (Both Being of Vedic / Shastric Origin) (confusion? - I dont think so). One is the Soura Maasa, and the Other Chaandra Maasa. The soura maasa followed the movement of the sun between the Raashis, while the chaandra maasa followed the movement of the moon. And beilieve this or not - our fore-fathers and even many people today follow BOTH!!!! - that is the level of advancememnt since ancient times. Why this is not a new year - The Sun has neither changed it's raashi nor has it changed it position - from Dakshinayanam to Uttaranayam. Nothing is new about 1st Jan 2004 - as compared to 31st Dec. 2003. Theoritically AND scientifically! The only thing that is new is the English Calendar. Finally - Please DO NOT mistake me to be a Fanatic / Extremist or what ever. These are true scientific facts and the reason why I am telling is that most of the present generation think the Ancient Indian calendar is full of flaws and is clumsy. I even know of University Text books which proclaim this. It is a sad misery that even the sons of the land are unable to respect / appreciate the highest level of accuracy that can be attained in Calendar science. And please keep in Mind - A Science whose 'adhipathi' is Lord Murugan and Lord Dakshinamurthy can NEVER NEVER NEVER be incomplete, incompetent or with ANY FLAW! If any one has been hurt, or fellings hurt, my apologies. NO Offence has been communicated to whoever - directly or indirectly. || Muruga Sharanam || || Thiruchitrambalam || ===== Shambho Mahadeva ______________________ India Mobile: Download the latest polyphonic ringtones.
