MURUGA SRANAM

I appreciate this idea. Personal experiences with Lord

Murugan of others are undoubtedly good inspirations

for aspirants. I can say that all that I have gained

as a person are due to His grace only. Only after

involving myself in His devotion I find that I am

getting better and better than what I was. I had

become more mature and articulate who can communicate

effectlively and convince others. I was not so before

.. Even in my wildest imagination I did not think that

I can become so and impress people in my career.

Every new knowledge I gain, if I sit and think, I

realise that it gets refined, only if I seek that

knowledge after I take His blessings. In my best

efforts, before doing anything and everything tell Him

that I want to do this and I ask him guide me in

achieving it. After this I have become less hasty. As

long as I sincerely listen and follow His advise which

He reveals through instincts, becomes an astounding

success.

It is no exaggeration that He makes the impossible as

possible. He gives us the means and courage to train

ourselves and elevate us in our capabilities to do

things but not by myth. For sometime I use to think

that I acquired these capabilities and thats why I was

successful in a particular thing though I use to seek

His blessings before doing it. But then I realised

many times that I AM NOT SUCCESSFUL SOLELY DUE TO MY

EFFORTS. Ofcourse we need those efforts but we gain

the skills and our efforts become meaningful when we

seek His blessings. He only gives us those skills.

Even if I give a CV of my friend to someone I give it

only after keeping it in front of Him and praying to

Him that it should become successful by His blessings.

Because sometimes one may be successful in getting a

job but it may not be absolutely suitable for him or

may not give enough income or may give numerous

troubles in the job. But if His blessings are there,

it can not only be successful but continue to serve

our purpose for the time to come. But simply praying

to Him and leaving the matter without any efforts does

not produce any result at all. We end up only being

lazy. He gives us the skills and we have to do it and

get the result. We cant sit saying " Ellam Avan Seyal " .

Results of actions are only by Karma. But that Karma

has to be blessed by Him.

But at sometime or the other I feel we should stop

asking this and that to Him and purely concentrate on

Devotion and Love towards Him alone. That alone can

give guaranteed and permanent happiness.

Shall be very glad if members share their devotional

experiences with Lord Murugan. Later I shall share

information on some incidents that took place during

Patha yathirai (pilgrimage by foot) to Palani.

MURUGA SARANAM

When we talk about Kumaragurupara swamigal, I am also

reminded of Thevaraya Swamigal who composed the six

Kavasams of Kanda Shashti. The Kanda Shashti Kavasam

posted in to our files section by a member who was kind enough

to do so, is actually the popular one that belongs to

Thiruchendur. The six kavasams that belongs to the six abodes

of Lord Muruga are as follows

1. Tiruparankundram - Starting with Thiruparankundurai

theerane guhane

2. Thiruchendur - Sahshtiyai nokka Saravana Bhavanar

3. Thiru Avinankudi (Palani) - Thiruaavinankudi sirakkum Muruga

4. Thiru Erakam (Swami Malai) - Om enum Pranavam unraithida

sivanar

5. Kundru thoraadum Kumaran (as all the hill shrines are

Murugan's dwelling places) - Ganapathy thunaiva Gangatharan

Puthalva

6. Pazamuthir Solai Kizhavon - Sangaran Maganay Saravana

Bhavanay

In addition to the popular one (Tiruchendur) I could get the audio

cassetes of Kavasam that belongs to only Palani one only when

I had been to Palani.

These Kavasams were composed by Thevaraya Swamigal (S/o

Veerasamy Pillai) who settled as a businessman in Bangalore

(period unknown) and learned Tamil literature from a renowned

Tamil Scholar. When he once got a serious stomach ache (like

what Thirunavukkarasar and Pakazhi kuthar got), He came to

Thiruchendil on the first day of shashti and immediately his

uncurable stomach ache started subsiding. He could not control

his tears of joy when he felt the grace of Lord Murugan and

started composing the six Kavasams one each day in His

sannidhanam in Thiruchendur.

the above facts are written in the preface of the Kavasam book

(printed in 1972) containing the six kavasams.

Thiruchendur seems to be more effective with curing physical ills

I believe. The words in all the six kavsams seem not to be good

Tamil literature alone but seem to be divine words. The

description of Lord Murugan in the verses of these Kavasams

represent the Supreme deity of all the universes and The Eternal

master.
