Namaskar,

my humble salutations to the devotees of Murugan. I am new to the

group and I wish to begin daily japa of " om Saravanabhavaya Namah "

but I am unsure of the pronounciation of Saravanabhavaya. Can some

one please help me to know how to pronounce correctly?

thank you very much!

Welcome to the group. Here's how you pronounce it:

Om Sa-ra-va-na-bhavaa-ya Na-ma-ha

So there are 3 seperate words starting with " Om " . I

have tried to spell Words No. 2 & 3 phonetically so

that you get as accurate a pronunciation as possible.

In word No. 2, the 4th syllable ( " na " ) does not have

any equivalent sound in English. Just pronounce

lightly, not as the " n " in " NO " . The tongue should

lightly touch the roof of your mouth and bounce back.

(As a shortcut, ask any Tamil friend about this

syllable!)

Regards

Patricia

MURUGA SARANAM

Hi Matanga..

Just to add on to Patricia's explanation, if you know hindi or any

other devnagri script this " na " is same as na in " pranav " or

" shravan " .

Wish you good time chanting.

MURUGA SARANAM

With Best Regards
