Vayalur Murugan

 

Muruga saved Aurnagirinathar who was falling from the Raja Gopuram of Tiruvannamalai temple and gave him the first line for Tirupugazh as "Muttai tharu..." and asked him to come to Vayalur. There he wrote the letter "Om" on the tongur of Arunagirinathar giving Deeksha. After that Arunagiri nathar wrote 16,000 songs on Muruga which are called as Tirupugazh. So Vayalur Murugan is believed to give the capacity to sing poems(Kavithai Punaiyam Thiran). So one who worships Vayalur Murugan is believed to get Gananm soon.

Kirubananda Swamigal would always start his speech saying "Vayalur Muruga Peruman Thiruvadigalai Vanangi Thodangugiraen..."

In Skanda Guru kavacham it is given that "Vayalur Kumara Valvinaigal Pokkiduveer..." denoting Vayalur Murugan is capable of giving Mukthi.

 

The Temple:

 

The Peacock(Mayil Vahanam) in Karuvarai is facing towards north and so it is called "Deva mayil".

Adhi Nayagi will be facing North normally in other temples. But here she will be facing South which is a rare form.

In all other temples Muruga will be doing Siva Pooja lonely, but here he is in a form doing pooja along with Valli.

Natarajar here is in the form of Soora Thandava moorthy.

This Murugan is believed to relieve the devotees from Marriage problems.
