If so it would be great if you can share your experiences. Vetrivel Muruganukku Arohara Mayil Nadamiduvon Malardi Saranam With Best Regards Meyyappan S Lakhs throng to witness 'Soorasamharam' Tuesday November 8 2005 11:23 IST THOOTHUKUDI: Around five lakhs of devotees from various parts of the state thronged Tiruchendur to witness the 'Soorasamharam' on the sixth day of the Kanda Sashti festival that commenced on November 2. Tiruchendur being one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga, has been considered as an important place by the devotees as it has been believed that Lord Muruga won Surapathman in this temple town to liberate the Devas and their King Devendran. From the first day of the Kanda Sashti festival, special poojas were performed in the temple. On the Soorasamhara day, the temple was opened to the devotees and poojas were performed since 1 a m. Amidst the devotees' emotional shouting 'vetrivel veeravel', the 'Soorasamharam' was performed in the traditional manner around 4 p.m. Temple sources said that about 5 lakhs of devotees attended the 'Soorasamhara' festival. Devotees from foreign countries like Malaysia, Sri Lanka, France, Singapore and England came all the way to Tiruchendur to take part in the celebrations. Elaborate security arrangements were made by the district administration. About 120 home guard personnel along with 1,400 police personnel and hundreds of volunteers were deployed. Higher police officers including Thoothukudi district Superintendent of Police Makesh Kumar Aggarwal, ADSP (Prohibition) Choodeswaran and 6 DSPs were monitoring the situation. Police sources said that about 3 watch towers were set up in the 'Soorasamhara' site. Anti-sabotage checks apart from routine vehicle checks were also carried out in view of the recent serial blasts in New Delhi. Trustee of the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy temple, B Sivanthi Athithyan along with the Executive Officer A Shanmugam made arrangements for the festival. The devotees heaved a sigh of relief as the festival was not marred by rain that lashed the town the day before the 'Soorasamhara' festival. Guest guest
Dear Maiyappan Sir, I fasted at the time of Sasti and i went to kanda Kottam in Chennai(Currently im in Chennai) to conclude fast. Every where they follow a method and in Kanda kottam the fasting is for 7 days(not 6 days). The reason is that they believe that we should complete the fast only after the Tirukkalyanam on the 7th day. And, as Krishnan sir told, fasting at the time of Sasti makes the body to be free from extra fat and relaxes all the muscles. All the Veins and nerves(Nadi - Narambu) in the body also get purified so that the body can observe more devine power. So totally, fasting at the time of Kanda Sasti makes the body pure. And Sasti fasting purifies the mind also that even its working speed gets increased and it greatly controls all the feelings. I believe that all these happened due to the Mercy of Muruga. And, this was the first time i fasted on kanda Sasti, and on the sixth day Soora Samharam was conducted. For that a drama troop was brought by the temple comittee and they performed it amazingly with live commetry. For the role of Murugan, a child ageing around4 years was brought and at every time(Taragasura Vadam, gajamugasura Vadam, etc...) it was brought near the idol having the face of elephant, Yaali, etc... and the vadam was performed with the help of Vel in the Child's hand. An amazing thing here is that the child was laughing all through Soora Samharam and it didnt get afraid on seeing such forms. All there felt that it was due to the power of Muruga. And at the time of Soora Samharam, we could feel the power of Muruga at the place. On the seventh day 108 Sangabishegam was performed to Kanda Samy(Moolavar in Kanda Kottam) and simultaneously Paneer bath was performed to Urchavar Muthu Kumara Samy to cool him as he has performed Soora Samharam and on the day's evening Tirukkalyanam was performed to Muthu Kumara Samy as a completion of Sasti festival. The Alangaram performed to Muthu Kumara Samy is the one that every one must see. Thank you... S Meyyappan <smeyyappan wrote: MURUGA SARANAMDear Skanda Kumara..Thanks for the news. The details of the Samharam were very interesting. To some extent it wards off the feeling that we were missing it. You must be blessed for having felt good about the Alangaram of Muthukumaraswamy in Thirukkalyanam.
