Guest guest
dear sir, u hv shown everyone what a true bakthi & devotion is ! no need to purchase pancha loga murugan, no need to know anything about so many slokas, niyamams etc. i really moved by the way u could realise OUR Lord murugan's blessings. what better experience can be there, than getting a chance to have His dharshan, after so many anxious moments. Guest guest
Yes, I agree. If you have true bhakti and devotion, it is enough. But why do we worship images of our deities, anyway? Because we are physical by nature, and we need to express our love in a physical manner. We love the small child. But we dont stop there. We hug the child, kiss it, buy nice gifts for it. We express our love with our body and soul. The same reason applies for idol worship. We're NOT worshipping a stone (or clay or marble or whatever!!). We cannot see the Supreme Lord; but we love Him/Her. Our heart is full of feeling (Bhakti). But we want to DO something for the Lord with our hands. So we get something that resembles the Lord (the image, whether it is made of stone or any other material); we offer flowers, incense, prescribed food etc etc. All this matters as long as we are not able to experience oneness with the Lord. When that state is achieved, then idol worship is not applicable. (Is it not the same when you're working far away from your family? You see their photos when you miss them. But if you're already with him, you dont see the photos). The beautiful thing about Hinduism is that it teaches you to reach out to the Divine in your own way, whatever is compatible with your true nature. So I'm waiting for our learned group members' response to Vasu Nair's questions about how to worship the idol of Lord Muruga. I hope my contribution has been useful. Best wishes to all, and a very very Happy New Year to all you wonder group members!!
