It seems that the person who has posted this article (originally) is

totally confused, dis-oriented and possibly deluded.

First of all, If my information is correct, all 28 Shiva-Agamas,

Kumara Agama, and Devi-Agama, are all Sanskrit Granthas (Works). I

don't see the point of eclipsing? It does not make any sense at-all.

If at all, then it should have been history, since not all of the

Agamas are currently available to all. Besides Agamic worship borrows

many Mantras from the Vedas. If in doubt ask about the use of Vedic

Mantras any shivacharya for clarification. You may yourself notice the

archaka uttering mantras during abhishekam, arathi etc.

Next the point of voluminous. The sentence cited above ( " The

Original.... " ) is absolute non-sense(sorry for the harsh words, but

that's what it is). The person who has written has absolutely no

knowledge of either the Vedas, Upanishads or for that matter the

Agamas itself.

For the kind information of readers - there is nothing like " Original

28 Agamas " . All Agamas are original indeed. It so happens that the 28

" SHIVA AGAMAS " are said to be older, which again is debatable.

The Aitreya shaka Rig-Veda contains around 10,000 or Odd Riks. A rik

is a mantra, set to a particular metre (Chandas) invoking a particular

Deity (Devata). One Rik is approximately the size of One Shloka (Hymn)

with approx. 15 - 20 words. That makes it the size ofapprox. 12000

Slokas, taking into consideration that some riks are even bigger. That

is only ONE SHAKA. The Pantajali Mahahashyam records 21 such Shakhas.

That makes it approx. 12,000 * 21 = 2,52,000 Mantras(approx.). This is

only the Samhita part. There is also a Brahmana, Aranyaka and

Upanishad, and one or more Kalpasutra(s) for each Shakha. It could

easily double to 5,00,000 verses or more for Rig Veda itself! That

makes it 5 times larger than Mahabharatha itself! and this is only one

Veda! Ofcourse of all 21 only the Aitreya Shaka has survived the

history and remains the ONLY AVAIlABLE Rig Vedic Shakha. The judgement

of the size is left to the readers.

This does not mean that Agamas are belittled. Agamas form an important

work in Ceremonial Worship in Temples and is indepensible. The 28

Shiva Agamas are said to have been imparted by Lord Siva Himself, when

the great rishis were puzzled and confused and totally deserted on how

to worship the one without form. Thirumular, the great yogi has given

great importance to both The Vedas and Agamas. What a pity, the

writter of the original document has totally failed to even understand

what he is even talking about.

(Then Nattuduaya Shivane Potri, Ellorukkum IraivaPotri)

Obeissance to the Lord of South, Oeissance to Him (Lord Somaskanda)

who is the Lord the refuge to all (in the Universe).
