Guest guest
I have just been given the mantra " Aum Saravanabhava " and know that it is a salutation to Lord Murugan. My question is, where does one begin in his studies of the Lord? Are there any good book suggestions? Sites that have good information for a beginner (and as a beginner to Hinduism as well)? I am a devotee of Lord Siva and am told that one should chant the mantra I mentioned until initiated by a guru. I have yet to find the guidance of a guru. I'm lost! Guest guest
You are NOT lost! You have found the mantra. Our God Murugan is in the mantra. If you are not used to japa, use a mala for spoken, muttered, or silent repetition of the mantra. Hear it in your mind during physical activity or when your mind becomes idle. Soon it will become part of you and you will feel the presence of God. See, you are not lost but very close to what you are seeking! For good information and instruction on mantras and japa, read JAPA YOGA by Swami Sivananda, published by the Divine Life Society ISBN 81-7052-018-5. Om shanti.
