Spiritual Stories: Post #59 "The Siddhas' Lesson" (Concluding Story of the series)

Dear Members..

The fifty-ninth story from the series of spiritual stories by Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi will conclude the entire series. This story about Lord Rama being sad about seeing people in misery reminds me of Buddha. I think even those who believe to be happy could only be happy temporarily as long as the happiness is derived from things external to us and not from the self. By the grace of Lord Muruga, The Merciful we should be able to derive the eternal happiness from our own self. The short story actually concluding the series seems inconclusive in itself and probably that leads us to further contemplation about the message in the story and indicates to us that the search for Truth shouldn't end here and keep continuing until we find it. Hope all the messages we derived from the fifty nine stories by Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi remain as inspiration to us and take us further towards understanding the Universal Truth and Reality and hence further towards The Lotus Feet of our most beloved Lord Murugan.

Though the spiritual snippets by Bahgwan Ramana Mahrishi may conclude here, still the excellent posts on Varam Oru Alayam by Mr. Natraj and Kanthar Anubhuthi Transliteration by Mr. Ramasamy would continue to give us that much needed spiritual enthusiasm every week and keep the discussions alive. Whenever some things or some event happens in any Murugan Temple nearby you, please share with us. Whatever you enjoyed in reading, understanding, praying or reciting hymns or in any form relating to Murugan Bhakthi, or Bhakthi in General, kindly serve all of us by sharing it with us in the group.

The Lord who mounts the blue peacock may come any time with His consort Kurathi Valli, and only Siva Yogis will understand the teachings of Guru and conquer the time and those simple doers of actions (who enjoy their fruits of good and bad actions) would only die.

(Hope my translation is nearly correct).

Let us enjoy the wait for the day The Beautiful Six Faced Lord Arumuga Peruman to mount on His blue peacock and show Himself to us along with His consorts Devasena and Valli. Until then let us just take the help of imagination and contemplate on How would His beautiful face decorated with Vibhuthi glow in radiance when He comes in front of us, how would His Vel sparkle with beauty of knowledge, how majestic He would look when He is seated on His peacock along with Valli and Devasena, what will be held in His twelve hands and how they would protect us and deliver us, how would those great saints be seated at His feet and sing His Glories and so on. Probably the hymns of different Vaguppus by Arunagirinathar may help us enjoy the power, grace and beauty of all features of Lord Muruga in a more authentic and effective manner.

May All Glories be to our Eternal Guru Skandagurunathan !

The Siddhas' Lesson

IN THE

VASISHTAM it is stated that Rama, after his return from a pilgrimage, found that the whole world was full of misery and that bearing the body was itself a cause of misery. He, therefore left everything, even things like eating and drinking, and remained motionless. When Viswamitra asked Dasaratha to send Rama to guard his oblations ceremony (

yagna), Dasaratha said that Rama was like a mad man and described some of the signs of his madness. On hearing them, Viswamitra said that he was very pleased to hear of those symptoms, that such madness did not come to many people and that he would like to see him and asked for him to be brought. Rama accordingly came, prostrated before all those present and sat down.

Viswamitra saw him and asked him the cause of his madness, and addressing Vasishta, said, "Please teach Rama the knowledge of the Self, the knowledge which Brahma taught you and me." Vasishta agreed to do so. While he was teaching, siddhas from all over came to listen to him and they thought to themselves, "Rama has gained so much knowledge at such a young age. How surprising! How great! What is the use of our living so long?"
