Guest guest
Until a few days ago, only members of my immediate family knew about the event I will describe below. Recently, in a course of a spiritual conversation, I told a friend about this event. It moved him very deeply and he told me that I must tell other people. This is probably the best place to do it, so here goes. One morning, during the summer of 2007, I awoke very suddenly before dawn. Usually, I don't wake up until a few hours later. I knew that I must not remain in bed and try to go back to sleep. I knew from within that I must go to my puja room to meditate. I sat down in the darkness and went into meditation. When I opened my eyes, I saw that a solitary column of light illuminated only my murthi of Lord Swaminathan, my ishta devata. I was overjoyed to see this. Then I wondered how this could happen. It was after dawn, but there were no windows that could let in light directly on the Lord. The puja room is a curtained corner of a larger room that I use for my yoga practice. At first, I thought the column of light was just created by a narrow opening in the curtain. I pulled the curtain back entirely. The column of light remained the same. It took me a minute to figure out where this light was coming from physically. The light was coming through a narrow opening between a window and a shade on the door. That column of light was a reflected on a mirror across the room, then back across the room though the narrow crack in the curtain right onto Lord Swaminathan. The mirror is a large moveable one that I always put back in its storage place across the room. To my memory, I have never forgotten to put it back where it is stored except for the evening before this special darshan. It was randomly left in the wrong place that one time only. In addition, here on the central California coast we usually have fog on summer mornings. For about a week prior to the day in question we had no sun in the morning. That day we had no fog and we had sun. The next day and the following days we had fog and no sun. For me, there are too many coincidences here for this to be random. A rare sunny morning coincides with a misplaced mirror to perfectly illuminate only my beloved friend, Lord Swaminathan. My altar has other murthis, but only this one was illuminated. But most wonderful of all, I was awakened as if by magic, and commanded by my inner self to witness this gracious act of our wonderful God. I brought my family to see and receive this grace. I stayed in this magical presence until the movement of the sun brought an end to this darshan. The murthi is merely a paper print of a picture from the net placed in a beautiful frame. I will send that pic through another post. So wonderful how something so simple brings the presence of God. Thank you, Lord Swaminathan. Thank you, Lord Muruga. How good you are to your devotees. Guest guest
Just when I was wondering about the long silence in the group, here came an inspiring experience. Thank you Richard (Yogendra?). So blissful when experiences such as these confirm that your God is with you and re-new your faith. Makes live worth living. So, so rejuvenating!
