During

deluge when land was drowned by ocean water, in order to save vedhas

they were placed in a pot and was coverd with a Shiva lingam as a Lid.

After few days this pot

reached Kodamooku near kumbakonam. As

days passed by, this pot broke into three parts, the bottom part landed

in Kumbakonam, Middle part reached ThiruKalayanallur, and the top part

along with the Lid reached Kudavaayil which is now called as Kudavaasal.
