Guest guest
Hare Krishna, The goal of one's work and indeed of one's life should be Lord Krishna. This is possible only when one has sincere devotion to Krishna. For such devotion to be steady and not just sentimental, one must understand the science of Krishna. Like any other science the science of Krishna has a theoretical aspect and a practical aspect. The theoretical aspect can be understood by studying diligently the principles of spirituality stated in the authorized textbooks of spirituality - the scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. And the practical aspect involves connecting one's consciousness with Krishna through the simple and sublime process of nama-sankirtana i.e. the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha mantra, Vishnu Sahasranama, etc. Every thing about Krishna is fit for worship. A true devotee of Krishna relishes His pastimes and considers His devotees like Himself. An aspiring spiritual scientist i.e. one who wants to worship Krishna through his work has a daily regulated program of spiritual practice or sadhana - ideally at the start of his working day in the morning. This spiritual practice creates a foundation of spiritual consciousness on which he can build the work of the rest of the day. Through nama-sankirtana and scriptural study, the spiritual scientist imbibes devotion to Krishna. And when one works with that devotion, then and then alone does one's work become worship. This is actual yoga, which according to the Bhagavad-gita is 'the art of all work'. By this simple process, anyone - right from a scientist to a farmer, from a doctor to a street sweeper, from a scholar to a housewife - anyone can transform their ordinary mundane work into divine soul-uplifting worship. By such a combination of worship and work, one will find lust transforming into love, greed into satisfaction, anger into tolerance and envy into respect. One will find one's work and indeed one's life becoming a joyful journey, in which one is peaceful and content at each moment and is simultaneously advancing at every moment towards the ultimate fulfillment of life. In conclusion, work becomes worship only when it is done in the divine Krishna consciousness. One can have such divine consciousness possible only when one gives time for exclusive worship of Krishna. Without such exclusive worship, work is simply fruitive activity, which results in bondage, suffering and the repetition of birth and death. Please Chant :Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare HareHare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare HareAnd Be Happy. SriKrishna Dasa Note – The above is excerpts from a discourse.
