Pranam to all Vaishnavas ,

Lord Krishna is extremely kind to those who believe Him

Many people often wonder as to whom they should approach when they are thrown amidst problems or face difficulties which seem to defy solution. No one need get demoralised as sages and saints have chalked out the path leading them to safety. India is unique in that over the years several inspiring spiritual leaders, travelling through the length and breadth of this vast country, had studied various types of situations and had left indelible instructions as to how to remain unfazed under all circumstances.

One of the greatest among these divine messengers was Veda Vyasa who had the great power to visualise how things would take shape in this ``Kali'' era (in which we now live). Many criticise that it is a waste of time to depend on the ``Puranas'' (written by him) not realising that drawing lessons from the contents therein, a person can lead a life without getting involved in worldly activities which result in sorrow.

These religious torchbearers had shown simple methods to derive solace ; to study the sacred texts in which valuable instructions are inlaid ; to visit temples and sing hymns adoring Lord Krishna. The incarnations of Krishna, the Supreme Being reveal how the devotees when they totally relied on Him, were given refuge and protected.

Srimad Bhagavatham serves as a lighthouse which guides ships which had lost their passage and which need to reach the shore of safety. The verses in this Purana inspire us to develop wonderful ideas which will purify the mind. One of the merits of this scripture is that a teacher who has trained a disciple showers praise on the latter which normally does not take place. Secondly, there is always the possibility of a young man disowning his father who had gone on the wrong way and thereby detesting him. But here, we come across a father who wanted to destroy his own child, only because it held on tight to Krishna’s feet . This episode is enshrined in Krishna's great incarnation as ``Narasimha.''

The introduction to the story of an extremely powerful demon king (Hiranyakasipu) and his son Prahlada mention how Krishna is impartial. He has no personal likes nor hatred and does not favour one against another. But He is extremely kind to those who believe in His Supreme power knowing the limitations of a human being who can function only within a specified range. Child Prahlada refused to acknowledge his father as God. The father was not an atheist but he ordered his citizens to worship him as God proclaiming that the Lord Naraynana was subordinate to him. Lord Naraynana saved the child from several ordeals and ultimately put down the ruthless acts of the father.

In this particular age (kali-yuga) in which we all presently live, we experience a deterioration in moral and ethical values. Invariably, people (in general) display dishonesty, hypocrisy, and superiority. Circumstances will keep them immersed in anxiety, fear and sorrow. But such adverse situations need not make us dejected because Lord Krishna , out of His mercy, has given us directives to escape from these perils. Like a boat made available for a man in the midst of turbulent waters, He has shown us how, practising devotion and pinning total faith in His supreme powers, it is quite possible to get over problems which a person may face. The most important constituent of devotion is to

listen about with one-pointed mind, praise, worship and contemplate upon Lord Krishna, the Supreme Being.

The constant meditation on Krishna's compassionate deeds will serve as a sword to cut the bondage of men. The cultivation of devotion will lead them to acquire spiritual knowledge and then to remain detached. The easiest method to attain these qualities is to seek the close company of the virtuous devotees, as service to such holy men will strengthen our faith in spiritual matters, increase the intense desire to hear more and more about the Lord. The saintly souls, with whom men, who long to get released from the shackles, choose to move closely will instruct them to sing the praise of the Lord and study the scriptures when the mind will be

freed from the agitations resulting in the attainment of purity and poise. Holy texts refer to the existence of a cow (kamadhenu) that yields any amount of milk and a tree (kalpavriksha) which can fulfil any desire if one sits underneath it but they are not available for men of this world. However all these - devotion, knowledge and dispassion can be transmitted to us by one source – Lord Krishna. Sage Narada, who can gain entry into any realm, mentioned to Sage Vyasa, how by writing on the qualities of Krishna , he would leave a rich literary treasure that will reform the people, directing them to take to noble pursuits, and thereby overcome all obstacles.

In the Bhagavatham, devotees can come across an extraordinary gallery of divine creations and heroes on the spiritual path. This scripture illustrates many other features of life - of faith in the redeeming power of Lord Krishna's names, looking upon the religious guides as coeval with Krishna and of seeking the fellowship of saints. Great emphasis is laid on chanting Krishna's names, a step that all can adopt, which can cleanse the mind of all impurities, merely enabling Krishna's vision to be enshrined therein and attain His merciful grace .
