Exalted Vaishnavas are manifestations of Krishna……….….... Nectarean MellowsOf course, those exalted Vaishnavas who come to this world are manifestations ofKrishna, in the sense they are revealing to the world the mercy of Krishna; theyare teaching the world how to love Krishna and really it is Krishna throughthese great souls that is teaching the world how to love Himself. A real sadhudoesn’t speak his own mind; he doesn't teach his own ideas. Krishna is doingeverything for him. Krishna is speaking for him. Krishna is instructing peoplethrough his example. Krishna shows the world through His devotee, how to loveHim, and how to serve Him, how to attract our minds to Him. Therefore Guru is arepresentative of God and Krishna often puts Guru in the same type ofsituations. I remember for so many years when Srila Prabhupada would come oftento where the devotees were, often we would have the great fortune of meeting himin India, at New york, at New Vrindavan, and such a joyous occasion it was forus to sit at his lotus feet, to hear him speak, to hear him chanting, to see hisexample, to experience his infinite love. We cannot even attempt to explain thegreat mercy showered upon us and the feelings and the realizations of ourindebtedness to him, whenever we would be in his physical presence. This was hislila to attract our minds, our hearts by coming before us in this way. But onmany occasions that was an even more intensified experience when his health wasin critical condition. Several times, messages came to every temple in ISKCONthat Srila Prabhupada is in very critical condition; he is immobilised due tohis old age; we do not know if he will or not live. He is requesting everyone topray to Krishna that "My dear Lord if you desire allow Srila Prabhupada to bewith us" and have 24 hour kirtan. At that time although Prabhupada was not therepresent, sometimes he was in India; sometimes he was in New York, sometimes inLos Angeles. This happened on several occasions when we would get these urgentmessages and I was in New Vrindavan at the time, but the same feelings wereeverywhere in all the 108 temples throughout the world. The devotees would stayup throughout the night practically everywhere just having kirtans with bigpicture of Srila Prabhupada on the Vyasasana, just sitting in front of theVyasasana and praying and while we were praying and having kirtans it was suchan intense anxiety in our minds that he might leave us. It was so painful in ourhearts just the thought to live in this world without our Guru Maharaj. It wastearing our minds and hearts into billions and billions of pieces. We couldn’timagine it. All we knew was Srila Prabhupada’s guidance. So the devotees werecrying, praying and chanting, but we had to chant Prabhupada prayer that if youdesire, we could not demand from Krishna, we could only make our plea, "If Youdesire, please allow him to remain with us" and practically how those wonderfulcircumstances brought the community together, because when such circumstancestook place, all ego problems between devotees were so insignificant, they wereforgotten, all personality conflicts it was as if they had never existed. Ourhearts were on fire. And appreciation for Prabhupada, gratefulness toPrabhupada, the understanding how serious are our vows to our spiritual master, were stronger than ever. And then Prabhupada would get better. But actually itwas us that got better. It wasn’t Prabhupada that got better. We became betterdevotees, better disciples. Our love, our affection, our feelings have increasedour gratitude. In this way Srila Prabhupada would tell us that Krishna puts theGuru through such circumstances for several reasons. (i) because the Guru has totake on the karma for the disciples, it has to go somewhere, so as token part ofit, the Guru accepts upon Himself as love by the arrangement of Sri Krishna and(ii) to increase the love and affection of the disciples, Krishna put Guruthrough this situation.
