Hare Krishna,

Destiny

Dear Gurudeva,I have a doubt. In the Bhagavad-gita when displaying his universal form to Arjuna Lord Krishna reveals everything past, present, and future. Gurudeva, isn't our destiny in our hands? Don't we reap according to what we sow? Or is it that God already knows what we will do, what we will think, etc? Also, if everything is going according to God's will then why are there so many bad things happening in this world?Gurudeva, I have another doubt. Are astrological readings (the predictions based on the configuration of the stars at the time of our birth), palmistry, and numerology etc true? What is written and what is not written in our fate? Please explain.Thank you very much,Aparna

Man is the Architect of His Own Destiny

My Dear Aparna,Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

From our limited perspective we may think that if God knows what we are going to do that means that we are not free to choose our own destiny. The fact is that Krishna or God is the perfect knower of what we will do, but yet we are completely free to act either in Krishna's service or in Maya's (His illusionary potency) service and this shape our own destiny.Often people wonder why so many bad things are happening in the world if everything is going according to God's will. Seeing the evil in the world they conclude that God is either not all powerful or He is not all good. This is an erroneous conclusion. The fact is that God is all powerful and He is simultaneously all good. Since love cannot be forced, the Lord gives us the choice to either love Him or leave Him. The evil is created by us in our foolish attempts to be happy and satisfied outside of the Lord's service. God's kindness is to give us the freedom to act according to our choice and at the same time make that choice so unpalatable for us that on our own volition we will come back again to His service. There are authentic Vedic arts of palmistry and astrology which can accurately predict our future. Nowadays however the practitioners are not well-qualified and thus these sciences have practically become lost. These readings if done properly can accurately predict the future according to the laws of karma. However,

if you surrender to Krishna this puts you outside of the laws of Karma. Chanting Krishna’s Hare Krishna Mahamantra or ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ one time can permanently alter your fate. It can completely change that which was destined to be your future.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare HareHare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Hoping this meets you in good health and in a cheerful mood,Your eternal well-wisher,Sankarshan Das Adhikari
