Hare Krishna, Question ( Why Sankaracharyas write “Narayana Namosthute” ) If any of you can enlighten

me as to the reason why our Sankaracharyas Sringeri or Kanchi write in their letter head or note " Sri Narayana Namosthute" . There must be some reason behind this . S.Ramaswamy Answer ( Sriman Narayana is the Godhead) . In all Sri Adi Shankara Maths, it is always Narayana Smrithi Only. Everyone does ‘Narayana Smaranam’ . Lord Shiva, is the Greatest Vaishnava . Sri Adi Shankara's love towards Lord Sri Krishna is beyond anything in the universe. Nothing is compared to that state its beyond everything that one can realise it as they reach that state. On the Other Hand Lord Krishna considers His devotee as Lord and keeps in such high states. There are more higher secrets which the Lords Narayana and Shiva only know, which is among themselves. Sri Krishna says in Mahabharatha that He and Lord Shiva alone knows the relationship between them. It is an accepted fact that Lord Vishnu (Narayana) is the Supreme Godhead, even among the Triad (Thri-murthis, i.e.,

Brahma, vishnu and Siva) or even among what we call "the Pentad" which refers to Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, Iswara and Sadasiva". This fact has been realised by Adi Sankara Himself when He wrote the Bhashyam on "Vishnu Sahasranamam". It was Adi Sankara who wrote the famous "Bhaja Govindam" . When Adi Sankara's mother about to pass away, at first she was praying to Lord Siva, but when the Sivadootas arrived, she

was very much scared of them. Then Adi Sankara prayed to Lord Narayana to send His emissaries. When Lord Narayana's emissaries arrived with four hands wearing the ensigns of Lord Vishnu, she was very happy and she breathed her last . Adi Sankara, the founder of the pure Advaita school of philosophy, who is the incarnation of Sri Parameswara and who, being the founder and Acharya (preceptor) of the

Shan-mathas (six tenets), was not partial towards any religion or faith . He refers to, honours and emphasizes that Sriman Vishnu alone is the support for worship in the context of the "Brahmopasana" (worship of Brahman, in the upasana cantos of from chapter 7 to chapter 12 of the Bhagavadgita). The reason for that is not far to seek . It is the superiority of the embodiment or form of pure Sattva-guna, which is none other than Lord Vishnu. Moreover, he has interpreted the 1008 names of the Sahasranama as pertaining to Lord Vishnu. Thus he explains the words "Sambhu", "Rudra" and "Sthanu" too, as referring to Lord Vishnu’s manifestations . Furthermore, towards His

end, it was through His well-known hymn, "Vishnu-padadi-kesa-varnanam " (Description of Vishnu from foot to head), that Adi Sankara attained Mukti--emancipation, thereby proving the doctrine in the Bhagavatam, "Anthe Narayana-smritih" . Though Adi Sankara has codified all the doctrines of the Brahma-sutras, he has said that Sriman Vishnu alone is the support for single-pointed concentration of the mind. All the forms of Gods are the manifestations of Sri Krishna. It is man's own ignorance or the effect of "Maya" that distracts him from Lord Krishna. One should not be fanatic . Ultimately, Lord Sri Krishna (Narayana) is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Hare Krishna A devotee. ----- ( Note – Based on two articles. )
