The Lord has directed me to join your group and prompted Sri Krishnadaya to sponser me. The Lord has also prompted me to thank Krishnadaya and krishnadasa for the kind gesture shown to me by both of you. I would like to introduce myself to the group as the first step. Born in 1931 at Mavelikara as the only son of Mahopadhyaya K.G. Vancheswara Sastry, who was teaching Sanskrit in the Mavelikara High School, I was myself the product of the grace of the Mavelikara Krishna Bhagavan. I had my education in Mavelikara and Trivandrum. My professional service was mainly with two oil refineries, one at Bombay, the erstwhile Standard Vacuum/ Esso Standard Refining Co. of India Lrd (the present Hindustan Petroleum)., for 15 years, and the the erstwhile Madras Refineries Ltd (present CPCL) at Chennai for more than 20 years. I retired in 1989. My father, a Sanskrit scholar, had co-authored a Malayalam commentary (The Bhaktaranjini Commentary) on Melpathur narayana Bhattatiri's Narayaneeyam. It was a very scholarly work and was very well received in those days (the 1930-s) and had won the appreciation of many intellectual giants of that time, like Ulloor, Kottarathil Sankunny, Taravathu Ammalu Amma and many others. As the readership of such a noble work was limited to only Malayalam-knowing devotees, self and a group of like-minded friends thought of making an English version of the same, targeting mostly, the younger generation. We also sought the help of another scholar in Sanskrit and the Vedanta philosophy to guide us properly and edit the work. This scholar's name Sri. S.N. Sastri who had already published a book on Narayaneeyam thru the Chinmaya Mission in 1988. The English version is in 3 volumes, running to about 1600 pages and is an example of Nishkama Karma, an offering to Lord Guruvayoorappan without any profit motive. The book has a Foreword by Poojya Swami Dayananda Saraswati. The book was also published by us, at the Bhaktaranjini Trust, Bangalore, with a view to reduce the cost to the reader-devotee.. All details of the book and four specimen chapters of the commentary with text in Devanagari script, transliteration, prose-order in Sanskrit, word-for-word meaning in English, tabulated to match the English syntax and a very vivid English commentary with all original quotations from the Gita, Upanishads, Puranas etc., with meanings, are available to the reader in our web-site at www.narayaneeyam.com Krishna devotees will surely find the book interesting.
