Guest guest
" Narayaneeyam " is an epitome of Bhagavatam , and it was personally approved by Lord Sri Krishna . According to this book, Sri Krishna is the " Poornavatar " and hence Maha-Vishnu . This why He is called the Supreme Personality of Godhead . In Vedic temples , the four armed Maha-Vishnu murty is worshipped as Sri Krishna because " Bhaktapriya Krishna " is very easily accessible to His devotees . Sri Rama was a King , Parasurama and Vamana were Sages , Narasimha was a furious form that frightened even the Devatas . But Sri Krishna lovingly lived as one among His devotees as they wanted . Whenever devotees tried to worship Lord Chaithanya by chanting His " personal " names , the Lord used to close His years saying " Vishnu , Vishnu….. " . It is advisable to worship Sri Krishna as one's Ishta Devata . When we chant Krishna's names , we are worshipping His other forms too . I believe ISKCON is trying to focus on Sri Krishna . However, it is advisable not to underrate Lord Krishna's other forms . Lord Krishna declares in Gita (4.11) : ye yatha mam prapadyante / tams tathaiva bhajamy aham mama vartmanuvarttante / manusyah partha sarvasah (O Partha! With whatever motive people worship Me, I reward them (or fulfill their desires) accordingly. People worship (or approach) Me with different motives.) ---- ---- ---- ------------------------ nandukother wrote Om Namoh Narayanaya. Sanjeev Ji, You stated the following ---where there is Krishna in the centre of all, and surrounded by Loyal Devotees.........innumerable Vishnus from innumerable universes, all serving Krishna..... Please tell--did Lord Krsna also tell you this bit? That Lord Vishnu is subservient to Him? Please explain how you can make such a declaration. Guest guest
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! All glories to Srila Bhaktivinoda, Srila Prabhupada, my most beloved Srila Gaurangapada and all Vaisnavas. Please accept my humble obeisances and blessings. I pray that this meets you well and in the service/mercy of Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga. My Dearest Narayana Das Prabhuji; You stated in your post that: " Whenever devotees tried to worship Lord Chaithanya by chanting His " personal " names , the Lord used to close His years saying " Vishnu , Vishnu….. " Please provide sastric evidence to this statement of yours. The Chanting of Nityananda is indeed authorized by our great Acharyas in accordance to Sastra. Shrila Sacchidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura: Navadvipa-dhama-mahatmya Chp 1: kali jivera aparadha asankhya durvara; gauranga-nama vina tara nahika uddhara. " The offenses and sins of the living entities in Kali-yuga are unlimited and absolutely insurmountable. That is why the souls can never ever be delivered without the regular chanting the most merciful name of Gauranga. " Shrila Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami caitanya-nityanande nahi esaba vicara, nama laite prema dena, vahe asrudhara (Cc Adi 8.31) " But if one chants, with only some slight faith, the two holy names of Lord Gauranga and Nityananda, very quickly he or she is quickly cleansed of all offenses. Since in the chanting of the names of Nityananda and Gauranga there is no consideration of offenses, one will very quickly come to the stage of love of God, simply by chanting Their names and tears of pure love for Krishna will flow from the eyes. " `nityananda' balite haya krsna-premodaya; aulaya sakala anga,asru-ganga vaya. (Chaitanya-charitamrita Adi-lila 8.23) " Simply by chanting the name 'Nityananda' one awakens his love for Krsna. Thus all his bodily limbs are agitated by ecstasy of love of God, and tears flow from his eyes like the waters of the Ganges. " Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura: grhe ba vanete thake, `ha gauranga' bo'le dake, narottama mage tara sanga. " One may reside in the house or in the forest, but if he or she is constantly chanting the name of Gauranga, then I (Narottama Dasa Thakura) want his association and want to serve him. " Shrila Narada Muni: gauranga-nama na laiya, yei krsna bhaje giya; sei krsna bahu kale paya. gauranga-nama laya jei, sadya krsna paya sei; aparadha nahi rahe taya. " If someone endeavours to worship Krsna without regularly chanting the name of Lord Gauranga, then he or she will achieve Krsna only after a very prolonged period of time. But if someone takes shelter of the Name of Lord Gauranga, he or she will achieve Krsna very soon because his or her offenses will immediately cease to exist. " (real shelter of the names of Lord Nityananda and Lord Gauranga means to chant Them atleast one thousand times i.e. 10 rounds daily) caitanya-nity & #257;nande n & #257;hi esaba vic & #257;ra n & #257;ma laite prema dena, vahe a & #347;rudh & #257;ra (Cc Adi 8.31) But if one only chants, with some slight faith, the holy names of Lord Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda, very quickly he is cleansed of all offenses. Thus as soon as he chants the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra, he feels the ecstasy of love for God. PURPORT & #346;r & #299;la Bhaktisiddh & #257;nta Sarasvat & #299; T & #803;h & #257;kura remarks in this connection that if one takes shelter of Lord & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu and Nity & #257;nanda, follows Their instructions to become more tolerant than the tree and humbler than the grass, and in this way chants the holy name of the Lord, very soon he achieves the platform of transcendental loving service to the Lord, and tears appear in his eyes. There are offenses to be considered in chanting the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra, but there are no such considerations in chanting the names of Gaura-Nity & #257;nanda. Therefore, if one chants the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra but his life is still full of sinful activities, it will be very difficult for him to achieve the platform of loving service to the Lord. But if in spite of being an offender one chants the holy names of Gaura-Nity & #257;nanda, he is very quickly freed from the reactions to his offenses. Therefore, one should first approach Lord Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda, or worship Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga, and then come to the stage of worshiping R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a. In our Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a consciousness movement, our students are first advised to worship Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga, and then, when they are somewhat advanced, the R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a Deity is installed, and they are engaged in the worship of the Lord. One should first take shelter of Gaura-Nity & #257;nanda in order to reach, ultimately, R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a. & #346;r & #299;la Narottama d & #257;sa T & #803;h & #257;kura sings in this connection: gaur & #257; & #324;ga balite ha'be pulaka & #347;ar & #299;ra hari hari balite nayane ba'be n & #299;ra & #257;ra kabe nit & #257;i-c & #257; & #324;dera karun & #803; & #257; karibe sam & #769;s & #257;ra-v & #257;san & #257; mora kabe tuccha habe vis & #803;aya ch & #257;d & #803;iy & #257; kabe & #347;uddha habe mana kabe h & #257;ma heraba & #347;r & #299;-vr & #803;nd & #257;vana In the beginning one should very regularly chant & #346;r & #299; Gaurasundara's holy name and then chant the holy name of Lord Nity & #257;nanda. Thus one's heart will be cleansed of impure desires for material enjoyment. Then one can approach Vr & #803;nd & #257;vana-dh & #257;ma to worship Lord Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a. Unless one is favored by Lord Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda, there is no need to go to Vr & #803;nd & #257;vana, for unless one's mind is purified, he cannot see Vr & #803;nd & #257;vana, even if he goes there. Actually going to Vr & #803;nd & #257;vana involves taking shelter of the six Gosv & #257;m & #299;s by reading the Bhakti-ras & #257;mr & #803;ta-sindhu, Vidagdha-m & #257;dhava, Lalita-m & #257;dhava and the other books that they have given. In this way one can understand the transcendental loving affairs between R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a. Kabe h & #257;ma bujhaba se yugala-pir & #299;ti. The conjugal love between R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a is not an ordinary human affair; it is fully transcendental. In order to understand R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a, worship Them and engage in Their loving service, one must be guided by & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu, Nity & #257;nanda Prabhu and the six Gosv & #257;m & #299;s, Lord Caitanya's direct disciples. For an ordinary man, worship of & #346;r & #299; Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda Prabhu or the Pañca-tattva is easier than worship of R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a. Unless one is very fortunate, he should not be induced to worship R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a directly. A neophyte student who is not sufficiently educated or enlightened should not indulge in the worship of & #346;r & #299; R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a or the chanting of the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a mantra. Even if he does so, he cannot get the desired result. One should therefore chant the names of Nit & #257;i-Gaura and worship Them without false prestige. Since everyone within this material world is more or less influenced by sinful activities, in the beginning it is essential that one take to the worship of Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga and ask their favor, for thus despite all his disqualifications one will very soon become qualified to worship the R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a vigraha. It should be noted in this connection that the holy names of Lord Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a and Gaurasundara are both identical with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore one should not consider one name to be more potent than the other. Considering the position of the people of this age, however, the chanting of & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu's name is more essential than the chanting of the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra because & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu is the most magnanimous incarnation and His mercy is very easily achieved. Therefore one must first take shelter of & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu by chanting & #347;r & #299;-kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a-caitanya prabhu-nity & #257;nanda & #347;r & #299;-advaita gad & #257;dhara & #347;r & #299;v & #257;s & #257;di-gaura-bhakta-vr & #803;nda. By serving Gaura-Nity & #257;nanda one is freed from the entanglements of material existence and thus becomes qualified to worship the R & #257;dh & #257;-Kr & #803;s & #803;n & #803;a Deity. In the Hari-nama-chintamani, Namacharya Shrila Haridasa Thakura explains this point: avisranta name nama-aparadha jaya; tahe aparadha kabhu sthana nahi paya. " Only by continuous chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra day and night can the ten offenses against Krishna's Name be obliterated. By the constant chanting of Krishna's Name, the ten offenses will not be able to again implicate the chanter. " Purport by Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura: " Continuous chanting (avisranta nama)- Only one who chants the Name with great feeling all the time during the day and night except during the time required for fulfilling the most basic bodily necessities like sleep etc. is able to successfully destroy the ten offenses. " So only the person who can chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra day and night with great feeling and attachment without stoppage at all times except at the time of sleeping can factually destroy the ten offenses. Who can accomplish this sadhana in the present circumstances in Kali-Yuga? A very very rare devotee may be able to do this, maybe one in a million. So for the general people unless they can chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra constantly in multiples of 64 rounds daily, they should take full shelter of chanting the Names of Nityananda and Gauranga as that is the only other easier means of destroying the ten offenses other than the constant chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra Itself. We know from the repeated statements of the Padma Purana, Hari-nama-cintamani, Chaitanya-Charitamrita, Navadvipa-Dhama-Mahatmya etc. that there are basically two ways to destroy the formidable ten offenses in the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra, which are the only obstacles on the path of a sadhaka in the achievement of Krishna-prema: (1) To take shelter of very regularly chanting the Nityananda and Gauranga Mantrarajas. (2) To chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra constantly day and night without stoppage in multiples of atleast 64 rounds daily. The second process of constant chanting of the Mahamantra (atleast 64 rounds daily) is very difficult for the conditioned souls of Kali-yuga who have to struggle to even complete their 16 rounds daily of the Mahamantra because of lack of time which in turn is due to a lack of taste which in turn is due to the mountains of offenses in their heart. It is obvious and clear that this process of constant chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra is accepted by a devotee who is very advanced in bhakti due to his or her practicing bhakti for many many births. Ofcourse it is recommended that all the sadhakas should be able to raise one day to the level of chanting atleast 100,000 names of the Lord daily but it may be practically implemented only by very very few sincere souls. Hence the more practical and the most powerful solution for the neophyte and beginner in spiritual life as suggested by Shrila Prabhupada himself in the first quote on page 3 is to thus take very regular shelter of the Nityananda and Gauranga Mantrarajas, which means to chant Them atleast 1000 times each (10 rounds) daily and increase the chanting to 32, 64, 128 and 256 rounds daily in addition to the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. This will enable the neophyte to quickly progress to the stage of chanting the Mahamantra without offenses. This is the verdict of Shrila Prabhupada, all the Acharyas, all the revealed scriptures and of Lord Nityananda Himself. On board the ship Jaladuta, September 13, 1965, Verse 3, by Shrila Prabhupada: tara iccha balavan pascatyete than than hoy jate gauranger nam prthivite nagaradi asamudra nada nadi sakalei loy krsna nam " By his (my Guru Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada's) strong desire, THE HOLY NAME OF GAURANGA will first spread throughout all the countries of the Western world. Then in all the cities, towns, and villages on the earth, from all the oceans, seas, rivers, and streams, everyone will chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. " Here Shrila Prabhupada is clearly stating that unless the conditioned and offensive people of this world regularly chant the name of Gauranga, they will not be able to factually take up or become qualified for directly taking up the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. And even if they do so they will be simply indugling in the Mahamantra because of their offenses. Thus they will not get the desired results, benefits and taste in the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and thus they may end up giving up the chanting process very soon. We have seen this happening in innumerable cases in our past Vaishnava history. Thousands of devotees have lost taste in chanting the Mahamantra and thus given up the chanting and developed their taste in material pursuits. This is because of a lack of chanting the Names of Nityananda and Gauranga. Therefore the only solution and the final conclusion of all the scriptures and acharyas is to very regularly chant the Names of Nityananda and Gauranga before beginning the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. (Commentary ends) Shrila Prabhupada's Letter to: Niranjana, Brooklyn, 21 May, 1973: " You mention that they have not even heard of Lord Gauranga. So that is their misfortune, and our misfortune also. _________________ in India, they could not preach Lord Gauranga's name all over India. " Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada Purport to Chaitanya-Charitamrita Adi 8.31: " The Hare Krsna Mahamantra considers the offenses whereas the Names of Gauranga-Nityananda don't consider offenses. An offensive chanter will never achieve the fruit of chanting (pure love for Krsna) by chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra. Therefore till the time he is commiting offenses, he should chant the names of Nityananda and Gauranga. Due the repeated chanting of the names of Nityananda and Gauranga, the offenses will be destroyed and he will achieve the fruit of chanting. " " The name of Krsna and Gauranga-Both are non-different than the named Lord. Those who think that Krsna is any way inferior or limited than Gauranga are in gross ignorance. But in practical considerations with respect to benefit awarded to the conditioned souls, the chanting of Sri Nityananda and Gauranga's Name is more useful and helpful for everyone. The mercy of Krsna's names is generally only upon liberated or perfected souls who are surrendered to Him. But the magnanimity of the names of Lord Nityananda and Gauranga is especially for the souls who are offenders and full of anarthas and desires for material sense-gratification. The chanting of Lord Nityananda and Lord Gauranga's Names and Their worship quickly delivers the soul from all the offenses and thus the soul achieves shelter at the lotus feet of Lord Gauranga-Krishna without any delay. " Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada in Shri Chaitanya-Bhagavata, Madhya-Khanda 3.134: " Simply by chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, the sinful inclinations in the hearts of all the living entities in the universe are permanently destroyed and their inherent purity is automatically awakened. On chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, even the merchants, degraded, fallen and foolish people are purified and immediately become realized in the Absolute Truth and devotees of the Lord. " Now Dear Prabhuji, I ask you again for your proof of your statement. If we are to be true to the cult of Sri Krishna Caitana and follow in the precepts of those who have come before us, we are not to walk in ignorance, and not repeating without merit what others have stated. The Acharyas have taught extensively on the chanting of the Holy Names of Nityananda and Gauranga, especially where it comes to the ten offenses so easily committed against the Holy Names of the Maha-Mantra. The Mantra-Rajas (chanting of Nityananda/Guaranga) do not consider the ten offenses, and one makes quicker spiritual advancement than taking initially to the Maha Mantra as is taught today by ISKCON and other Gaudiya Maths. Sastra speaks for itself, and the strength of the Mantra-rajas are proof in Themselves. Your eternal servant; Nitaipada Maharaja
Guest guest
Nityananda! My Dearest Sunil Prabhuji; Please forgive me for taking so long to return a reply to you. I contracted a terrible computer virus and was afraid of sending emails to anyone less I spread this terrible thing. I have not forgotten one moment your request for more information, infact, I was in great distress in not being able to reply promptly to your request. I pray that you forgive me for not being able to get to another computer, but I am separated from many due to my position. Thank you for your questions and for the kindness you have extended this lowly servant of Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga. I pray that you understand fully this most sublime secret among secrets which my Gurumaharaj has so lovenly explained to me, one which I wholy desire that all the Lord's devotees will embrase. The Mantra-Raja means "King among Mantras". It is referring to the chanting of the Holy Names of Sri Nityananda and Sri Gauranga. There are many sastric slokas referring to the chanting of Nityananda/Gauranga, and teachings among the Vaisnava Acharyas concerning the same. My Guru Maharaj, Srila Gaurangapada has written vast volumes about this wonderful, but hidden secret. If we pay attention to the writtings of Srila Prabhupada, he explains without prejudice the chanting of the Mantra-Rajas or the Gaura-Gopala mantra and the Haladhara Balarama mantra. There is no difference in the chanting of Nityananda/Gauranga and the chanting of Radha-Krishna. Srila Prabhupada explains in Cc, Antya-lila 2.24,31 The four-syllable Gauranga-mantra or the Gaura-gopala mantra is described as follows in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Antya-lila 2.24,31: apane bolana more, iha yadi jani; amara ista-mantra jani' kahena apani. 'gaura-gopala mantra' tomara cari aksara; avisvasa chada, yei kariyacha antara Nakula Brahmacari told Sivananda Sena, "You are chanting the Gaura-gopala mantra, composed of four syllables (which is your ista-mantra i.e. worshippable mantra). Now please give up the doubts that have resided within you." Purport by Srila Prabhupada: Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura explains the Gaura-gopala mantra in his Amrta-pravaha-bhasya. Worshipers of Sri Gaurasundara accept the four syllables 'gau-ra-an-ga' as the Gaura mantra, but pure worshipers of Radha and Krsna accept the four syllables ra-dha krs-na as the Gaura-gopala mantra. However, Vaisnavas consider Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu nondifferent from Radha-Krsna (sri-krsna-caitanya radha-krsna nahe anya). Therefore one who chants the mantra "gauranga" and one who chants the names of Radha and Krsna are on the same level. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura says the same in his Amrita-Pravaha-Bhasya: gaura-gopala-mantra-gauravadi gana 'gauranga'-name catura-aksara gaura-mantra ke uddesya karena; kevalakrsnavadi gana ei 'gaura-gopala-mantra' sabde radha-krsnera catura-aksara-mantrake uddesya karena "The following is the explanation of the Gaura-gopala mantra. The followers of Lord Gaura accept 'Gauranga' as the four-syllable mantra and the followers of only Krsna accept 'Radha-Krsna' as the Gaura-gopala mantra. The followers of both Lord Gaura and Lord Krsna accept either one of them as the Gaura-gopala mantra understanding that They are non-different from each other." Further, Srila Prabhupada states: "Srila Prabhupada in Cc Adi-lila 8.31 purport "It should be noted in this connection that the holy names of Lord Krishna and Gaurasundara are both identical with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore one should not consider one name to be more potent than the other. Considering the position of the people of this age, however, the *** chanting *** of Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's name is *** more essential *** than the chanting of the Hare Krichna maha-mantra because Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the most magnanimous incarnation and His mercy is very easily achieved." gauranga-nama na laiya, yei krsna bhaje giya;sei krsna bahu kale paya.gauranga-nama laya jei, sadya krsna paya sei;aparadha nahi rahe taya “If someone endeavours to worship Krishna without regularly chanting the Gauranga Mantraraja, then he or she will achieve Krishna only after a very prolonged period of time. But if someone takes shelter of the Holy Name of Lord Gauranga, he or she will achieve Krishna instantly because all the offenses will immediately cease to exist.” This verse is found in Navadvipa-dham-mahatmya, Chapter 7, verse 1 by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura. In this chapter, the King Suvarna Sen is instructed in what our true position is by Naradha Muni. In the chapter it tells of how Suvarna Sen received Naradha Muni with great oppulence and opulent worship. As far as I understand, there is only one Naradha Muni, the great teacher who is spoken of through out sastra. I pray that this causes no confusion in your mind. I know that I am a poor example and do not possess the understanding for such highly exhaulted teachings. But, I pray that you understand what I am attempting to poorly explain to you. Srila Gaurangada can explain this so much nicer than I can, this is why I remain eternally at his lotus feet. You may study Srila Gaurangapada's teachings at www.gaurangapada.org and ask him questions in the area where it says "Ask Gaurangapada". I remain your eternal servant in assisting you to understand the importance of the Mantra-Rajas. It is the most sublime secret of Vaisnava teachings, and sadly, one which so many stand against. I am just a simple servant with no capsity of higher thought, but I completely accept what my Guru Maharaja has taught me in his unlimited wisdom and mercy. It was indeed a great pleasure to read your detailed instruction regarding the importance of offenseless chanting and how Sri Sri Gaura Nitai helps the fallen souls to achieve Krishna Prema. May I humbly request you to throw some light on the followings: What is exactly meant by Mantra-Rajas. Is it chanting of Panchatatva mantra or only chanting of Nityananda/Guaranga . In sastic evidence you had quoted Shrila Narada Muni’s quote “If someone endeavours to worship Krsna without regularly chanting the name of Lord Gauranga, then he or she will achieve Krsna only after a very prolonged period of time. Thus all his bodily limbs are agitated by ecstasy of love ofGod, and tears flow from his eyes like the waters of the Ganges."Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura:grhe ba vanete thake, `ha gauranga' bo'le dake, narottama mage tara sanga."One may reside in the house or in the forest, but if he or she isconstantly chanting the name of Gauranga, then I (Narottama DasaThakura) want his association and want to serve him."Shrila Narada Muni:gauranga-nama na laiya, yei krsna bhaje giya;sei krsna bahu kale paya.gauranga-nama laya jei, sadya krsna paya sei;aparadha nahi rahe taya."If someone endeavours to worship Krsna without regularly chanting thename of Lord Gauranga, then he or she will achieve Krsna only after avery prolonged period of time. But if someone takes shelter of theName of Lord Gauranga, he or she will achieve Krsna very soon becausehis or her offenses will immediately cease to exist." (real shelter ofthe names of Lord Nityananda and Lord Gauranga means to chant Thematleast one thousand times i.e. 10 rounds daily)caitanya-nity & #257;nande n & #257;hi esaba vic & #257;ran & #257;ma laite prema dena, vahe a & #347;rudh & #257;ra(Cc Adi 8.31)But if one only chants, with some slight faith, the holy names of LordCaitanya and Nity & #257;nanda, very quickly he is cleansed of all offenses. Thus as soon as he chants the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra, he feels theecstasy of love for God.PURPORT & #346;r & #299; la Bhaktisiddh & #257;nta Sarasvat & #299; T & #803;h & #257; kura remarks in this connectionthat if one takes shelter of Lord & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu andNity & #257;nanda, follows Their instructions to become more tolerant thanthe tree and humbler than the grass, and in this way chants the holyname of the Lord, very soon he achieves the platform of transcendentalloving service to the Lord, and tears appear in his eyes. There areoffenses to be considered in chanting the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra, butthere are no such considerations in chanting the names ofGaura-Nity & # 257;nanda. Therefore, if one chants the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantrabut his life is still full of sinful activities, it will be verydifficult for him to achieve the platform of loving service to theLord. But if in spite of being an offender one chants the holy namesof Gaura-Nity & # 257;nanda, he is very quickly freed from the reactions tohis offenses. Therefore, one should first approach Lord Caitanya andNity & #257;nanda, or worship Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga, and then come to the stage ofworshiping R & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a. In our Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a consciousness movement, ourstudents are first advised to worship Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga, and then, whenthey are somewhat advanced, the R & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a Deity is installed, andthey are engaged in the worship of the Lord. One should first take shelter of Gaura-Nity & # 257;nanda in order to reach, ultimately, R & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a. & #346;r & #299; la Narottama d & #257;sa T & #803;h & #257; kura sings in thisconnection:gaur & #257; & # 324;ga balite ha'be pulaka & #347;ar & #299; rahari hari balite nayane ba'be n & #299;ra & #257;ra kabe nit & #257;i-c & #257; & #324; dera karun & #803; & #257; karibesam & #769;s & # 257;ra-v & #257;san & #257; mora kabe tuccha habevis & #803;aya ch & #257;d & #803; iy & #257; kabe & #347;uddha habe manakabe h & #257;ma heraba & #347;r & #299; -vr & #803; nd & #257;vanaIn the beginning one should very regularly chant & #346;r & #299; Gaurasundara' sholy name and then chant the holy name of Lord Nity & #257;nanda. Thus one'sheart will be cleansed of impure desires for material enjoyment. Thenone can approach Vr & #803;nd & # 257;vana- dh & #257;ma to worship Lord Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a. Unless one isfavored by Lord Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda, there is no need to go toVr & #803;nd & # 257;vana, for unless one's mind is purified, he cannot see Vr & #803;nd & # 257;vana,even if he goes there. Actually going to Vr & #803;nd & # 257;vana involves takingshelter of the six Gosv & #257;m & #299;s by reading the Bhakti-ras & # 257;mr & #803; ta-sindhu,Vidagdha-m & # 257;dhava, Lalita-m & #257; dhava and the other books that they havegiven. In this way one can understand the transcendental lovingaffairs between R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a. Kabe h & #257;ma bujhaba se yugala-pir & # 299;ti.The conjugal love between R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a is not an ordinary humanaffair; it is fully transcendental. In order to understand R & #257;dh & #257; andKr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a, worship Them and engage in Their loving service, one must beguided by & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu, Nity & #257;nanda Prabhu and the sixGosv & #257;m & #299;s, Lord Caitanya's direct disciples. For an ordinary man, worship of & #346;r & #299; Caitanya and Nity & #257;nanda Prabhu orthe Pañca-tattva is easier than worship of R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a. Unless oneis very fortunate, he should not be induced to worship R & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;adirectly. A neophyte student who is not sufficiently educated orenlightened should not indulge in the worship of & #346;r & #299; R & #257;dh & #257; and Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;aor the chanting of the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a mantra. Even if he does so, hecannot get the desired result. One should therefore chant the names ofNit & #257;i-Gaura and worship Them without false prestige. Since everyonewithin this material world is more or less influenced by sinfulactivities, in the beginning it is essential that one take to theworship of Guru-Gaur & #257; & #324;ga and ask their favor, for thus despite all hisdisqualifications one will very soon become qualified to worship theR & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a vigraha. It should be noted in this connection that the holy names of LordKr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a and Gaurasundara are both identical with the Supreme Personalityof Godhead. Therefore one should not consider one name to be morepotent than the other. Considering the position of the people of thisage, however, the chanting of & #346;r & #299; Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu' s name is moreessential than the chanting of the Hare Kr & #803;s & #803; n & #803;a mah & #257;-mantra because & #346;r & #299;Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu is the most magnanimous incarnation and His mercyis very easily achieved. Therefore one must first take shelter of & #346;r & #299;Caitanya Mah & #257;prabhu by chanting & #347;r & #299; -kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a-caitanya prabhu-nity & #257;nanda & #347;r & #299; -advaita gad & #257;dhara & #347;r & #299; v & #257;s & #257;di-gaura- bhakta-vr & #803;nda. By servingGaura-Nity & # 257;nanda one is freed from the entanglements of materialexistence and thus becomes qualified to worship the R & #257;dh & #257; -Kr & #803; s & #803;n & #803;a Deity. In the Hari-nama-chintaman i, Namacharya Shrila Haridasa Thakuraexplains this point:avisranta name nama-aparadha jaya;tahe aparadha kabhu sthana nahi paya."Only by continuous chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra day andnight can the ten offenses against Krishna's Name be obliterated. Bythe constant chanting of Krishna's Name, the ten offenses will not beable to again implicate the chanter."Purport by Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura:"Continuous chanting (avisranta nama)- Only one who chants the Namewith great feeling all the time during the day and night except duringthe time required for fulfilling the most basic bodily necessitieslike sleep etc. is able to successfully destroy the ten offenses."So only the person who can chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra day andnight with great feeling and attachment without stoppage at all timesexcept at the time of sleeping can factually destroy the ten offenses.Who can accomplish this sadhana in the present circumstances inKali-Yuga? A very very rare devotee may be able to do this, maybe onein a million. So for the general people unless they can chant the HareKrishna Mahamantra constantly in multiples of 64 rounds daily, theyshould take full shelter of chanting the Names of Nityananda andGauranga as that is the only other easier means of destroying the tenoffenses other than the constant chanting of the Hare KrishnaMahamantra Itself. We know from the repeated statements of the Padma Purana,Hari-nama-cintamani , Chaitanya-Charitamr ita, Navadvipa-Dhama- Mahatmyaetc. that there are basically two ways to destroy the formidable tenoffenses in the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra, which are theonly obstacles on the path of a sadhaka in the achievement ofKrishna-prema:(1) To take shelter of very regularly chanting the Nityananda andGauranga Mantrarajas.(2) To chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra constantly day and nightwithout stoppage in multiples of atleast 64 rounds daily. The second process of constant chanting of the Mahamantra (atleast 64rounds daily) is very difficult for the conditioned souls of Kali-yugawho have to struggle to even complete their 16 rounds daily of theMahamantra because of lack of time which in turn is due to a lack oftaste which in turn is due to the mountains of offenses in theirheart. It is obvious and clear that this process of constant chantingof the Hare Krishna Mahamantra is accepted by a devotee who is veryadvanced in bhakti due to his or her practicing bhakti for many manybirths. Ofcourse it is recommended that all the sadhakas should beable to raise one day to the level of chanting atleast 100,000 namesof the Lord daily but it may be practically implemented only by veryvery few sincere souls.Hence the more practical and the most powerful solution for theneophyte and beginner in spiritual life as suggested by ShrilaPrabhupada himself in the first quote on page 3 is to thus take veryregular shelter of the Nityananda and Gauranga Mantrarajas, whichmeans to chant Them atleast 1000 times each (10 rounds) daily andincrease the chanting to 32, 64, 128 and 256 rounds daily in additionto the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. This will enable theneophyte to quickly progress to the stage of chanting the Mahamantrawithout offenses. This is the verdict of Shrila Prabhupada, all theAcharyas, all the revealed scriptures and of Lord Nityananda Himself. On board the ship Jaladuta, September 13, 1965, Verse 3, by ShrilaPrabhupada:tara iccha balavan pascatyete than thanhoy jate gauranger namprthivite nagaradi asamudra nada nadisakalei loy krsna nam"By his (my Guru Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati ThakuraPrabhupada's) strong desire, THE HOLY NAME OF GAURANGA will firstspread throughout all the countries of the Western world. Then in allthe cities, towns, and villages on the earth, from all the oceans, seas, rivers, and streams, everyone will chant the Hare KrishnaMahamantra."Here Shrila Prabhupada is clearly stating that unless the conditionedand offensive people of this world regularly chant the name ofGauranga, they will not be able to factually take up or becomequalified for directly taking up the chanting of the Hare KrishnaMahamantra. And even if they do so they will be simply indugling inthe Mahamantra because of their offenses. Thus they will not get thedesired results, benefits and taste in the chanting of the HareKrishna Mahamantra and thus they may end up giving up the chantingprocess very soon. We have seen this happening in innumerable cases inour past Vaishnava history. Thousands of devotees have lost taste inchanting the Mahamantra and thus given up the chanting and developedtheir taste in material pursuits. This is because of a lack ofchanting the Names of Nityananda and Gauranga. Therefore the onlysolution and the final conclusion of all the scriptures and acharyasis to very regularly chant the Names of Nityananda and Gauranga beforebeginning the chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. (Commentary ends)Shrila Prabhupada's Letter to: Niranjana, Brooklyn, 21 May, 1973:"You mention that they have not even heard of Lord Gauranga. So thatis their misfortune, and our misfortune also. ____________ _____ inIndia, they could not preach Lord Gauranga's name all over India."Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura PrabhupadaPurport to Chaitanya-Charitamr ita Adi 8.31:"The Hare Krsna Mahamantra considers the offenses whereas the Names ofGauranga-Nityananda don't consider offenses. An offensive chanter willnever achieve the fruit of chanting (pure love for Krsna) by chantingthe Hare Krsna Mahamantra. Therefore till the time he is commitingoffenses, he should chant the names of Nityananda and Gauranga. Duethe repeated chanting of the names of Nityananda and Gauranga, theoffenses will be destroyed and he will achieve the fruit of chanting.""The name of Krsna and Gauranga-Both are non-different than the namedLord. Those who think that Krsna is any way inferior or limited thanGauranga are in gross ignorance. But in practical considerations withrespect to benefit awarded to the conditioned souls, the chanting ofSri Nityananda and Gauranga's Name is more useful and helpful foreveryone. The mercy of Krsna's names is generally only upon liberatedor perfected souls who are surrendered to Him. But the magnanimity ofthe names of Lord Nityananda and Gauranga is especially for the soulswho are offenders and full of anarthas and desires for materialsense-gratification . The chanting of Lord Nityananda and LordGauranga's Names and Their worship quickly delivers the soul from allthe offenses and thus the soul achieves shelter at the lotus feet ofLord Gauranga-Krishna without any delay."Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada in Shri Chaitanya-Bhagavata ,Madhya-Khanda 3.134:"Simply by chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, the sinfulinclinations in the hearts of all the living entities in the universeare permanently destroyed and their inherent purity is automaticallyawakened. On chanting or hearing the name of Lord Nityananda, even themerchants, degraded, fallen and foolish people are purified andimmediately become realized in the Absolute Truth and devotees of theLord."Now Dear Prabhuji, I ask you again for your proof of your statement. If we are to be true to the cult of Sri Krishna Caitana and follow inthe precepts of those who have come before us, we are not to walk inignorance, and not repeating without merit what others have stated. The Acharyas have taught extensively on the chanting of the Holy Namesof Nityananda and Gauranga, especially where it comes to the tenoffenses so easily committed against the Holy Names of theMaha-Mantra. The Mantra-Rajas (chanting of Nityananda/Guaranga ) donot consider the ten offenses, and one makes quicker spiritualadvancement than taking initially to the Maha Mantra as is taughttoday by ISKCON and other Gaudiya Maths. Sastra speaks for itself, and the strength of the Mantra-rajas are proof in Themselves.Your eternal servant;Nitaipada Maharaja Everyone is raving about the all-new Mail beta.
