Hare Krishna ! Dandavat Pranams to Bhagavan Sri Krishna and all Vaishnavas ,

Sage Kapila's Sankhya Yoga begins like this :

" Atha Trividha Dukhatyantanivriti –

ratyanta Purushartha : "

( The end of three types of Sorrows is Purushartha )

Three types of "Sorrows" trouble a man . They are :

AAdhyatmikam : Caused or originated by the person himself .

AAdhibhautikam : Caused by others ( Thieves, Wicked, Enemies , Animals ,etc).

AAdhidaivikam : Caused by Godly or Natural forces ( Eg ; Hurricane, Flood, Psunami , etc) .

What is the remedy to overcome the above (3) types of "Sorrows" ? .

As mentioned in Sankhya-Yoga , the end of (3) types of "Sorrows" leads to `Purushartha' which is the ultimate objective of a man .

When illness causes "Sorrow", it can be overcome by medicine . But , later that illness could reappear with it's "Sorrow" . When poverty troubles , receiving some money will be a temporary solution . When that money finishes , "Sorrow" will re-appear . Again , no permanent solution at all to end the "Sorrows" !! So, does none of us eligible for `Purushartha' ?.

Here the second sloka of Sage Kapila comes relevant .

" Na dristal talsiddhi -

rnnivritepyanuvrittidarsanal "

(None of the materials seen in this world can end the "Sorrows" ) .

The materials can just create an illusion of ending the Sorrows . But , the very next moment , "Sorrows" will reappear .

A detailed analysis on the above leads us to a great truth . ` Mind is the root cause of all Sorrows . Until the mind is there , Sorrows will appear . Does it mean that , one can't attain `Purushartha' in his lifetime ? . This is also not correct . So, what is the solution ?.

Just one solution . Restrict the mind and control it . Prepare the mind suitably to grow towards `Paramapurushartha' . There is only one way to condition the mind – "Prayer" .

Hear the stories of Bhagavan Sri Krishna , Narrate it to others , Think about it , Grasp it's message .

King Uthanapada's little son Druva was upset at the humiliation caused by his step-mother and father . To escape this Sorrow, Druva did `tapas' (penance) to Maha-Vishnu . Before commencing the `tapas' , his single intention was a boon granting permission to sit on father's lap. But when Bhagavan Maha-Vishnu appeared in front of him , Druva forgot to ask this boon . All what he asked was :

" O Bhagavan ! Please bestow on me just steadfastness in Your Bhakti ".

This is the real Bhakti . All the worldly assets cause "Sorrow". A Devotee knows this fact and therefore he will nor pray for money , land , or any other material fortune . Duva did exactly the same .

However , Druva who has conquered his mind was blessed by Maha-Vishnu with all types of fortunes such as Empire , Immense wealth , Power , Fame, etc, etc . Bhagavan always showers fortunes on His Devotee without being asked for by him .

Isovasya Upanishad says :

Isavasyamidam sarvam

yatkrinchaja tyam ja t

tenatyaktena bhunjitha

magridhra kasya swidhanam .

( Bhagavan resides everywhere in this world . So you live without desiring other's wealth . )

Should we waste this precious this life only for desiring the wealth and worldly comforts of others and seeking ways to attain them . During this process of useless exercise , the fortune seeker dies without being able to take anything in his hand .

Therefore, we should also pray like Druva :

" O Bhagavan ! Please bestow on me just steadfastness in Your Bhakti ".

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya!!! SriKrishnaDasa Rajeev .
