Guest guest
Hare Krishna ! Dandavat Pranams to Bhagavan Sri Krishna and all Vaishnavas , Kururamma ( AD 1570 – 1640) was a childless Brahmin widow . She was an ardent Devotee of Sri Krishna . There is a saying ` Human is like raw gold . Bhagavan melts it and dips it in tears in order to condition it for turning into a beautiful ornament . After becoming a widow at the young age of (16) , Kururamma was left in life with nothing of her own . She took shelter in `Ishta Devata' Sri Krishna and started doing His `Nama-Japa' at all times . `Nama-Japa' became like breathing . Slowly, slowly , the constant `Japa' elevated her to the highest level of Krishna-bhakti . And Bhagavan Krishna became her son ! . Innocence , filled her mind. With it, motherly love started flowing towards everyone. When Sri Krishna plays in the minds of all , everyone is Kururamma's child . Her eyes filled with tears , hairs of the limbs stood on it's end , and breasts filled with milk, whenever she saw anyone . This motherly affection, made Kururamma the mother of everyone . Villwamangalam Swamy ( AD 1575 – 1660 ) was the renowned Vaishnava Acharya of the period . He was famous for performing Puja by seeing Bhagavan Krishna in front . Many people used to meet the Acharya and seek His advices . Gradually , He became the Guru of everyone . There was a Brahmin who was suffering from unbearable stomach pain . He took treatment from many famous Doctors , but, his pain increased with everyday . He even used the services of famous Jyotishis and Tantrics . But everything failed . Out of desperation, that sick Brahmin used to try whatever method anyone advised . Finally , somebody advised him to see Vilwamangalam Swamy . Pressing down the paining stomach , the sick Brahmin met Vilwamangalam . And told the history of his misery in detail to the Swami . The Acharya asked him to wait till the Puja is over . During the Puja , Vilwamangalam told this issue to Sri Krishna . Bhagavan replied that it was due to the reactions of sinful past `karma' . Nothing more was asked or said . After the Puja , Vilwamangalam conveyed this information to the Brahmin . He also said that , there is no escape from the sufferings of `Prarabda' ( sins of past Karma) . The sick Brahmin was heartbroken, when he heard this. Cursing himself , he walked away. He was thinking : ` Why should I live like this ? . I can't eat even a single grain . I have already eaten mountains of sour medicines . Still, I am unable to live a single moment without acute pain ' . Later , while lamenting to someone , he mentioned about the meeting with Vilwmangalam Swami . The listener happened to be a person who had benefited from the love, faith and mercy of Kururamma . He advised the sick Brahmin to approach Kururamma and appraise her of his suffering . Accordingly, the Brahmin reached Kururamma's house. Kururamma thought he is hungry and offered him some food. The Brahmin said that he could not eat any food because of his acute stomach pain, which even Villwamangalam could not cure since it was due to `Prarabda' . Kururamma listened patiently to the description of his grievances. Although, Bhagavan Krishna was standing by her side , she didn't have any doubt to ask Him . And she advised the Sick Brahmin : " Son, you just chant `Rama , Rama , Rama ….' . It will end all your sufferings . Start, right now . Don't doubt ". The Brahmin bowed down to Kururamma and started chanting "Rama, Rama, Rama…" . When a practitioner of `Nama-Japa' instructs, it has extra effect . Since `Nama-Japa' had become like breathing to Kururamma , she was the most qualified `Satguru' to advise it ; and here it's recipient was a desperate Disciple . And what she advised was the `Rama-Tarakam' . The Brahmin started feeling slight relief then itself . Kururamma told him to have a bath in the tank, in the name of Sri Krishna . After his bath, he was served food. He was able to eat that food comfortably . The Brahmin expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Kururamma and left as a relieved man . He continued chanting "Rama, Rama.." ; and within a short period, his stomach pain disappeared completely . Thus, that Brahmin became an ardent Krishna-bhakta . He started attending all available functions of `Satsangh' and `Nama-Sankeertana'. In such a function , he met Vilwamangalam Swamy again and narrated in detail how Kururamma cured him by `Rama-Tarakam' . During the next Puja, Vilwamangalam informed this to Sri Krishna . Also he made a complaint : " O Bhagavan ! Why didn't You reveal this trick to me ? " Bhagavan replied with a smile : " I just told you that , it was due to his sinful past `Karma' ; and I didn't say , it can't be resolved by `Nama-Japa' . Doesn't Vilwamangalam know that , `Nama-Japa' destroys all types of miseries ?. In this matter, you don't have even little of the faith Kururamma has . Therefore, there wasn't a reason for Me to say it ". Hearing this revelation from the Supreme God Himself , Vilwamangalam bowed down in respect of Kururamma's pure Krishna-bhakti .
