Dear devotees of Lord Krishna!

Radhe Krishna!

Kindly permit me also to add a few words, further to my earlier mail on

the subject of "Anger".

According to my experience, anger is something which is not

uncontrollable, but requires strict will-power to control it. One can

do it with determination. First of all, one should have the

conviction that one should NOT get angry and should not allow to

develop it. The question of suppression comes only if it is developed

in the mind. Once it is not developed, where is the question of

suppression.

The six enemies of man, Kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada and matsarya

can be controlled by the mind. Once Kama and krodha are controlled,

the others automatically come under control.

Krishna is quoted as exhibiting His anger while He took Sudarsana

Chakra and went like a lion to attack Bhishma in the war. It is wrong

to interpret that it was an exhibition of anger, whereas it was an

exhibition of love to His devotee, and to ensure that the words of the

devotee does not become untrue. Bhishma, one of the most ardent

devotees of the Lord had promised to see that the Lord takes weapon

during the course of the war. And it is evident from the fact when

Lord Krishna approached Bhishma with the Sudarsana chakra in hand,

Bhishma laid down his own weapons, and stood with bowed head and folded

hands, to show his respect for the Lord, in demonstrating His love for

the devotee. This fact is specifically mentioned in Bhagavatam, in

the "Bhishma-stuti".

Further, when the Lord takes human form for the destruction of the evil

and protection of the virtuous, He is mot prompted by Karma-bandha,but

he has to,or rather forced to act like an actor acting in a drama and

undergo/exhibit all emotions like a human being.. As examples, Rama's

reaction when he heard of His father's demise, His

externalmanifestation of sorrow when Sita was robbed by Ravana,

although He was internally happy that events that lead to the fruition

of His incarnation are really taking place. In other words, to quote

divine personalities as exhibiting human emotions would amount to

misinterpretation of the epics.

Durvasa, for instance, was an incarnation of Lord Rudra who has a

preponderance of Tamo-guna which was making him get angry for the

simplest cause and pronounce curses. His reaction to Ambarisha's

taking water and completing his parana after Ekadasi and cursing Indra

as he placed the flower garland on the head of the elephant and was

finally trampled upon by the elephant. These are all inexplicable

sportive Leelas of the Lord, to teach the common man what is real

dharma..

This is what the beautiful leela of our dear Lord,

Yea it is true, when we are in deep anger , someone else has the full

power to bring us down in cool condition using his/her lovely

words...........

Hi ,

But is controlled anger good sometimes.

Once my father gave some amount to my

uncle to start business. He never returned

accounting only the losses later I came to

know that he had profits. I have never seen my

father buying any ornaments for my mother , however

I came to know that my aunt have bought ornaments

from the borrowed money. My uncle always used to lie.

Even in my engineering days none of my father's relatives

helped him. I didnot get admission in the college I wanted.

I have always seen my mother saving and working hard al through

her life.

But insted of scolding his brother he did not even

tell me anything of this.He would mention the good

childhood days but never about anything of these. I

learnt all these from one of my relative.

My blood used to boil whenever

I thought of my uncle but my father would never feel angry.

At this point I thought is anger not justified sometimes.

SIVANANDA DAILY READING FOR 27 JANUARY

ANGER

When you become angry leave the place immediately. Take a long walk;

stay away for a half hour. Repeat the sacred mantra OM SANTI one

hundred and eight times. You will find that your anger subsides.

Another way is to count from one to thirty - your anger will subside.

When anger tries to show itself, observe silence. Never utter a harsh

word. Try to nip it off before it emerges from the subconscious mind.

You will have to be alert. It tries to come out so suddenly. But,

before anger manifests in the mind, there is agitation in the mind.

If you strive to subdue anger, then hatred subsides - but even then

there may be slight impatience lingering there. Eschew this slight

disturbance also. For a man who is leading a divine life, this is a

serious drawback. Irritability is a weakness of the mind. Remove it

by practising tolerance, mercy and love. Calmness is a direct means

to the realisation of Brahman.

Keep the mind always in balance, in tune. Close the eyes. Dive deep

into the divine source. Feel God's presence. Repeat His name and

remember Him at all times. You will gain immense spiritual strength.

Meditate early in the morning, before you mix with people. Then rise

above the thousand and one things which might irritate you in your

daily life. Then only you will live in harmony and concord. Then only

you will turn out wonderful work.

Man wastes much energy by becoming angry, very often over little

things. The whole nervous system is shattered and agitated. If this

anger is controlled, by brahmacarya (purity), forbearance, love and

vicara (enquiry), a man can move the whole world. Anger manifests so

suddenly that it is difficult to check it. The impulses it generates

are so powerful that he is swayed by them. Control anger. Control the

mind.
