Guest guest
Om Namo Narayana Respected Devotees of Lord Sri Hari, There have been several instances in our sacred scriptures which prohibit the non-brahmins or the uninitiated to study our sacred scriptures, notably the holy vedas. The laws of Sri Manu also state this, further more Garuda Purana (given to Garudan by Sri Narayana) states that "The Śûdra who studies the letter of the Vedas, who drinks the milk of the tawny cow, who wears the sacred thread or consorts with Brâhmiṇ women;.............fall into the river of blood called Vaitarani and thus are punished in hell" Chapter IV. I request the learned members of this forum to enlighten me, are the non-brahmins or the uninitiated ones are doing a great sin against the wishes of Sri Vishnu, by studying the vedas or using vedic hymns in their daily prayers. What other recourse can such individuals take in order to quench their spiritual and religious thirst, and ultimately live a life devoted as a servant of Sri Vishnu without causing such sins? How do we really know if we are doing a sin, by using these prayers especially if one doesnot have a learned guru to consult, but still wants true knowledge and peace. Guest guest
Kamlesh, I believe you are thinking of Sudras' by race (by birth). That is not correct. If you read Gita, Bhagwan Krishna says that Jaati (race) is defined by the deeds of an individuals and not by birth. By birth everyone is equal (ignoring past Karma), hence there is nothing that stops anyone who truly loves Him and full of devotion, to read any scriptures. The statement in your message is true that when anyone conducts unholy deeds to qualify him as Sudra and .... women, should not touch Holy Scriptures. Hence there is no confusion. Hari Om! Guest guest
My humble suggestion is that anyone who is not initiated into Veda studies, should first make up his mind as to the way of life he is going to lead---he shoud have the courage of convition that he should, hearafter (forget the past) lead his life as a brahmana which is prescribed in the scriptures, and get initiated to chant the Gayatri Mantra. Then only start chanting Vedas, as taught by the Guru, as any mispronunciation will lead to adverse results. He should find a progressive guru to initiate him and teach him all the intricacies of the life of a brahmana.    After the initiatiuon, he should perform all rituals properly as a brahmana should do, and all his actions should be according to the scriptures.
