Guest guest
Kulasekhar Alwar Name: Kulashekar Alwar Place of Birth: Tiruvanjikkalam Birth Month: Maashi (Magha) Birth Star: Punarvasu Amsham: Kausthuba Works: Perumal Tirumozi Kulashekar Alwar was from kerala and Ksatriya by caste, Born on Friday suklapaksha dwadasi of Masi month in the Prabhava year under Punarvasu star. He was valorous as he was virtuous, and conquering the enemy kingdom, he established Ekachatradhipatya soon after his accession and earned a name as benevolent dictator. Like the adage " as is the king, so are the subjects, as are the subjects so is the prakriti " . There was progressive contentment, breaking through every sphere of human life. The king's obsession for devotion was mounting higher and higher with his age. Like the far-famed Janaka of Mithila, he renounced luxury and was always found immersed in spiritual activities and strove for the Dharmika chintana of his subjects. He converted his palace chambers into bhajan mandhir and spent lavishly on a large number of Vaishnava bhaktas, confining them to the fourwalls of palace for ready access to discourse, debates and ritualistic prayer services. His passion for taking permanent settlement at Srirangam, the Booloka Vaikundam made him oblivious of his imperial duties. His samsleshana bhava was non pareil. It was resented by ministers and well wishers. So they hit upon a plan to get rid of all the vaishnava bhaktas living in the palace. Concealling the precious jewels adoring the archamurthi in the palace temple; they attributed the theft to Vaishnava bhaktas. When reported he flew to the ungovernable anger and proclaimed the charge as baseless and malicious in loud noise. He proclaimed that he would put his hand into the pot containing a poisonous cobra and if he were not bitten it would prove the falsity of the charge. When ordered for the pot the officials accepted the guilt and the cause for it. Forgiving the well wishers he left Srirangam with followers continuance of devotional performance on installing his son as the king. Reaching there he enlarged the sphere of his activities in worshipping the Lord with unparalleled devotion and working on immortal devotional books. Mukundamala and Perumal Tirumoli, his master-pieces are the standing testimony of his peerless bhakti and matchless spiritual maturity and austounding scholarship, and they are occupying a high place in the bhakti literature.
