Hare Krsna. Time is very precious so do not waste it on trifles. People keep money in safes, but time cannot be saved in this manner. Time can be saved and utilized in the right manner only by being alert. Or else time will be wasted. Those who have made the right use of their time by having a disinclination for worldly pleasures and inclination to know the Supreme Essence, became saints and exalted souls. Time devoted to good company, the company of saints and worship and devotion of God is most precious time. Therefore devote your time to the best of pursuits, such as study of sacred books, constant remembrance of God, chanting His name and serving others. Don't waste it on useless pursuits such as worldly pleasures, jokes, smoking, movies, theatre, alcohol and playing cards. By smoking you set fire to your time, money, freedom and health and pollute the atmosphere. Some one asked a saint whether he smoked. The saint said he did

not smoke, but people made him smoke by the puffs of smoke that they released. In Ramcharitamaanasa it is said - "There is no duty like the welfare of others and there is no meanness like giving trouble to others.Par hit saris dharmnahi bhaayi; par peedaa sam nahin adhmaayi." (VII:40:1) How pitiable it is to give trouble to others and to cause disturbance to them through your useless activities such as smoking ! By devoting that time properly, you can attain God and become His devotee. God declares that - "I am a servant of my devotees and they are the jewels on my crown.Mein hu bhagatan ko daas, bhagat mere mukutmani." Let us therefore devote time in worship and devotion of God, and become that jewel in His crown.
